Anybody able to run PF on Perfect with this card? I've tried it but the whole scenery just goes black!

Yes, It works fine here. You must use OpenGL, not DirectX.

What drivers are you using?

I run with a AMD Barton 2500+, ATI 9500pro Catalyst v4.10, 512MB DDR at 1152x864x32 in OpenGL and i have this.

Visibility Distance: High.
Objects Lightning: High.
Objects Detail: Excellent.
Landscape Lightning: High.
Landscape Detail: Perfect.
Clouds Detail: Detailed Coulds.

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=1
Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=1
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=2
LandShading=2
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=2
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=8
Water=1
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=1

PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.0625
PolygonOffsetUnits=-1.0

I know that our cards are not the same in all specs but still it might give you some idea as to what is playable.

Ummm! interesting. Yes, I've only ever used OGL and I always install the latest drivers, 4.11 at the mo. I'll try some of your setting Valkyrie, thanks.

9600pro here, I currently (might change)use:

In-game setting smaxed out +

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=2
Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=1
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=2
LandShading=3
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=2
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=7
Water=1
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=0

I'll fiddle around with it more later, I just reinstalled the game and haven't changed anything yet (I had in the previous installment).
Looks awesome, I love the reflections in perfect water.

I tried your settings Valkyrie but it looked worse, and with Perfect on I still get black land and sky. So it's back to the original settings on Excellent.
Thanks for the help.

I won't pretend to offer technical support but you may want to remove all your ATI (and non ATI drivers if you had a previous non ATI card on your system) drivers with Driver cleaner and do fresh install of the IC recommened driver.

You can get driver cleaner at:

http://www.driverheaven.net/

Cheers!

I am running a ATI 9500 Pro with everything perfect. Looks very beautiful! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Like said before make sure you run on Open GL.

I run perfect on a 9600XT, but with
HardwareShaders=0

when I tried with
HardwareShaders=1
I got a black screen similar to your problem.
Aircraft display Ok but ground, sea, sky are black.

I suspect its a driver issue and intend to try 4.11

Meanwhile try
HardwareShaders=0

Cheers,
Keith

Installed 4.10s and still get black sea and sky with hardwareshaders=1
Was using 4.3 or 4.4, not sure.
I think I can get the atiogl.dll from 4.1 and drop that into the il2 folder?
Cheers,
Keith

"Theer aint any v4.11 Catalyst"
Correct, thats why I actually installed the 4.10.

Usually newer drivers are released the day after I install the previous ones, so expect the 4.11s real soon!

Meanwhile, does anyone have a clue why I cant set HardwareShaders?
The 9600XT does have h/w shaders!

Cheers,
Keith

Alright,
2600 Athlon
1gig RAM in dual channel on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe Mobo using he integrated 5.1 sound.

Catalyst v4.10 1152x864x32 in OpenGL.

In-game video options maxed out, conf.ini:

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=2
Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=1
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=2
LandShading=3
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=2
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=7
Water=1
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=0

Very playable, I haven't tested with over 40 planes yet but so far no complaints. Of course heavy flak causes stutters.

I have a Penthium IV with and ATI Radeon 9600 pro and PF runs excellent with Perfect settings. Of course i use water=1, its the best compromise between the beautifull water and not having too much of an fps decrease.

Now, i have PF installed on two hard drives, one with the latest drivers for other games that require newer drivers, and the other with FB+AEP+PF only.

The hard drive with FB+AEP+PF only have this driver version:

CATALYSTâ"ž˘ 4.1
Driver Build 6.14.10.6414
7-97-031212a-013118c
Date: 01/19/04
File: wxp-w2k-7-97-031212a-013118c.exe
http://www.ati.com/support/products/radeonwinxppreviousdrivers.html

It works GREAT

The other hard drive, where i have installed the other games i play, i have THIS driver version:

CATALYST Windows XP 4.10
Date: 10/14/04
File: wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-062-040929a-018115C.exe
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html?type=xp&prodType=graphic&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=14&submit.y=11

In this case it doesn't work well on Perfect so i have tu use excellen

I think that there is a confussion about the drivers the readme says. The readme recommend drivers 4.1 for ATI card, but it refers to the odl drivers dated from 01/19/04, and most people use the drivers 4.10 dated from 10/14/04.

Hope this helps!
