Hi guys, just wondering if these engines were the same, or did the S199 actually have the bomber version of the the engine?

I beleive the S-199 was powered by the Jumo 211F

As used in the He111. There were loads of these engines avaailable after the cancellation of the bomber programme. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

S199: 211F
JU88A: 211A
other Ju88 variants (like C): 211F,B,G,H,J and others (BMW 801D as well)
Ju88G, the Nachtjaeger variant: 213A and BMW 801D

FW190D: 213A

So: "no". S199 had the engine of early Ju88s. D9 had the same engine as the late (and fast) Ju88G.

As Originally posted The Jumo211f engines were alocated to the HE-IIIH 20/22 programme.

So yes they were bomber/transport/V1 carrier aircraft engines

Eh, ironically choosing teh Jumo for his new fighter may be one of the best Kurt Tank's selections... Jumo type that was previously used to be installed in bombers http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif .
Also that may be the key answer to a question why "D" type of FW has long nose.

Israeli pilots said the S 199 tried to kill them every time they flew it.

It was an underpowered, nose heavy, dog.

Tank wanted the DB603 engine. You might want to research the B and C models of the 190.

The Isrealis hated the S199, but still had some success with it, though it killed far more of their pilots than the Arabs did in it due to the instability caused by the engine. It was the only thing available at the time, and they paid outrageous prices for them. As soon as they bought/captured a few Spits they replaced them.

The 109 was already tough enough to take off and land in as it was. I can't imagine it being worse.

Avia S-199 used Jumo 211F engine that was also used on Ju-87. It gave less power and weighted more than a DB-605 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
