I'm setting up a mission wherein a VVS B-25 goes out on anti-sub patrol over the Gulf of Finland and attacks a German sub. Anyone done this? What's the optimum payload, altitude and method for sub-killing?

Give me a 75mm Cannon as part of the loadout and I'll get back to you on that one... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Skip bombing

and loadouts capable of multiple releases

you may miss such a low target on the first pass.

Aim for the conning tower.

Yup. B-25 was used extensively in the PTO for anti-ship/sub patrols. I think a loadout of 6x500 should do the trick. Gives you three attempts and an almost certain kill if you succeed.

Also, you could level bomb them but that is less realistic unless you're attacking a harbor.

I think the main problem will be that in IL2 near misses cause no damage but in actuality they would be extremely damaging (concussion effect much like a depth charge).

I've destroyed submerged submarines with a P-47 in a test mission with 500 lbs. bombs. In this case you have to come in steep enough not to skip bomb. So I see no reason why a B-25 wouldn't be just as or nearly as capable. Time delay is necessary for low accurate targeting, so you must lead your target.

In real life mg's could damage a ship or sub but it wont work ingame. Like on land an ammostorage could be blown up, and flamable material could be set on fire on ships.

The best method to skipbomb subs are to fly low for a while and line up and then release.
If u fly even a bit too high the bomb may bounce over the low sub, so the lower the better.

In RL they could drop the bomb in most any attitude because time was short and the sub could dive.
Near-misses destroyed most subs and sips.
The internal damage could be really severe from the concussion. Any type of piping to and from the engine, and parts inside the engine could be broken.

Often the gunners would gun the sub before and after, if they could, to keep heads down so they didn't man the deckcannon.

well, if it's surfaced, the subs in this game have extremely deadly anti aircraft skills, stay high. multiple release idea sounds good. maybe send in a decoy plane to take heat. machine guns in reality would distract gunners.

So that's how you do it! And to think all this time I thought skip bombing was when you ignored your first target (skipped it) and flew on to the second! WOW, such a wealth of info here! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
