Hi there
I recently bought a GF6800gt and 512RAM
But I cant se any increase in performance.
I find that pretty strange cuz my old ti4200 wasnt much slower than this brand new 6800.
And I still have the long loading times when I quit my missions.
My rig:
XP2100+
1gig ram
6800GT
WinXP SP2

Anyone that have a clue

Sorry for bad english.
Im not from any englishspeaking country and Im tired http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think your CPU is your bottle neck right now. Try getting a 3200+ (about 100$) and it'll all be fine.

I have an AMD 2800+ with the same card but I had 1gig of ram. I think you should first try to get more RAM. 512 is really the bare minimum in my experience. Get a stick of 1Gig and then you'll have 1.5G.
I think thats cheaper and easier than a CPU.

My 6800 with 1gig of PC2700 looked really, really good. I say .."looked"..because I just upgraded so I have 2gig of RAM now. ITs marvelous.

Good luck

I assume you have a total of 1024 of ram (2x512) right? Is your pc "seeing & using" all of the ram? I ask that because on two occaisions I installed more ram and my pc didn't see it, once because it was not fully seated and once because it was a bad stick.
On vid card, maybe it doesn't seem faster, but try a higher resolution or more eye candy and I think you will see the difference between the 6800 & the old 4200.
I would suggest you post your dxdiag in the community help forum.

its your cpu. eather over clock it or get a faster one. Im 99% sure that its you problem.your cpu and the 4200 was about an even match up.but now your cpu is not alowing that bad a$$ new card to run at its full potental. im have the same problem only backwards i just went from a 1.6 p4 to a 64amd 3000. but im still useing my 9500pro. and the 9500pro is holding back the cpu.

Are you playing in OpenGL mode or DirectX mode?

If the Ti4200 was running in OpenGL mode but for some reason the 6800GT is in DirectX mode then that might explain it too.

Apart from that, what the other guys have said is spot on - more RAM and/or a faster CPU will help - the CPU will make biggest outright difference, but RAM will make some improvement and at a smaller cost. Personally I'd go for CPU upgrade first but REALLY try hard to get the extra RAM as soon as possible after that.

Long loading times
Good bet that can be fixed .Good chance just by tweaking alittle.
Post DX in the community forum.

I would agree what the others said. You have a unbalanced system.
Do not have the link at the moment,
From what I recall you need aleast a 3000 CPU to start kicking that video card in gear.

i beleave he ment he bought 512 more ram. his system specs at the bottem of hi page says he has a full gig.as far as geting a faster cpu you might have to replace your mobo to to get a decent cpu.honestly if your haveing to buy a new cpu i wouldnt get anything lower than a 2800xp. and if you have to buy a new mobo you may as well go up to the 64 bit amds there is not a big cost deffernce between a 3000xp and a 3000 64 bit. mobo price defernce is probly about 20 to 30 bucks.check prices on newegg just to see. if the mobo you already have will suport the 2500 mobels i hear thay are easy to overclock to 3000xp speeds. just something to think about.

I had EXACTLY the same experience. I don't think its a problem, just that upgrades sometimes are not as big an improvement as they appear.

When I first went from 1.2 gig to 2.8 gig CPU, I hardly noticed any difference in performance for most things. I have 3 gig cpu, 1 gig dual channel memory and a 9800 pro, but PF runs ok on perfect, but not that great.

Thx guys for your replies!
I do have 1gig of RAM.
But Im beginning to think that the configuration (2x256mb and 1x512mb)may produce som problem.
I‚¬īve been thinkin that my cpu is the bottleneck.
But I feel that something isnt right in my system cuz I got bad performance in every resolution all the way down to 800x600.

I will post my dxdiag. It would be wounderful if you guys could help me solve this problem.
But how do I post my dxdiag?
Do I run dxdiag in the "run" window on the startmenu?
Cuz I found this

You've put ferrari doors, fairings and accesories in but all on a VW. You won't see an increase until your CPU is upgraded.

If you want to test/check ram download memtestx86 and use it to find any errors.

Your "system info" from your DXDiag says you have DX8.1 installed http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif You had better run and get DX9.0c. You can get the stand-alone install from here;

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0a9b6820-bfbb-4799-9908-d418cdeac197&DisplayLang=en

How on Earth have you managed to not have a version of DX9 on your computer!? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif DX 9 is what, five years old now?

After you install DX9.0c, reinstall your card drivers.

First try updating your video and motherboard drivers. Yours are a little old.
Nvidia Video drivers v66.93 dated Nov 9 2004
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93

And then Nvidia Nforec drivers 5.10 dated Sept 17 2004

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10
You'll see some increase doing this. After that do what Alexi_Alx_Anova
suggested and update your DirectX.

As far as you CPU goes...Well your choking that 6800. You have a AMD 2000+ running @ 233 mhz fsb (256 L2), that you have clocked to a 2100+. Your motherboard supports 400 mhz, try getting hold of an Athlon with a fsb of 333 mhz (512 L2) and overclock it.

The CPU is the biggest thing holding you back at this time, If you upgraded you'll see a big difference.

not trying to steal the thread, but

I got DX9b installed, when I try to install DX9c, I get a message saying a cabinet file can not be trusted ????

and install fails

I have copied and moved the cabinet file from my other computer over and still get same thing, I have hunted on the net and found cabinet files, and loaded them and still get the same message

right now, I am getting by with 9b, but would like to get 9c loaded

(bought the kid Sim2 and that won't run with out it)

any ideas

I dont know what has happened to my 2100+
Cuz it was a 2100 when I bought it and now it‚¬īs showing like a 2000+
But that doesnt matter.
I‚¬īll try getting a 3200+ or something

√¬ć‚¬īve been stickin to the asus stock drivers that I got when I ordered my a7n8x-e

But the strange thing is that I feel that my previous system with 2100+ ti4200 was quicker than with my new 6800gt

But anyway..
If my cpu is the problem I‚¬īll fix it.

Thx guys

You should post this in the community help forum (or maybe one of the mods could move this for ya), you'll get more advice over there.
You have a few things that need updating, start with SP 1 or SP2 for your XP pro, DirectX 9.0c. I'm not familar with your your mobo, but I'd bet you could update your chipset and sound drivers.

OMG, I didn't realize he hasn't even got SP1 installed! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Perhaps you should find someone computer savy to come and look over your computer. If you're current setup is an indication, I seriously would not advise you to try upgrading your CPU. That's not trying to be condesending, just calling a spade a spade.

Calm down guys http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Usually Sp2 is installed but now when I formate all the time adjusting different things I dont have the time to install sp2 all the time.
Its the same with dx9c
So my biggest problem is my cpu

OMG, I didn't realize he hasn't even got SP1 installed! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Perhaps you should find someone computer savy to come and look over your computer. If you're current setup is an indication, I seriously would not advise you to try upgrading your CPU. That's not trying to be condesending, just calling a spade a spade.

Alexi

Just because he doesn't have service packs installed doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing. Besides, both service packs for XP so far have not been about addressing performance, but addressing security, as usual. They have nothing to do with how well XP plays games. If anything, I bet the original unpatched XP plays games faster than patched XP.

it is a posabilaty that you may have gotten a bad card. something that just acured to me though.you said you bought more ram. look in your mobo manual and see what it says about placement of ramm sticks in the dimm slots. some mobo will lower the speed of your ram if you dont have it placed in the right ram dimm slots. and some will lower the ram speed if you yous all the ram slots. my mobo has 3 dimm slots. as long as i have pc3200 and have a stick in slots 1 and 3 then it will run the ram as ddr400. how ever if i was to put another stick in the center dimm it would slow down to ddr333. also if i use dimm slots 1 and 2 instaed of 1 and 3 then it will see the ram as ddr200. very stupid if you ask me but thats the way some mobo are if not all of them.

If with any resolution you get low FPS then the CPU is the problem, since your VGA can hold 1600x1200 4X 4X with a hand in her back.. To be on pair with this card you would need an AMD 64 3400 or equivalent

This RAM issue
I think that my mobo doesnt like me filling up all 3 slots
Before I bought 2x 256 twinmos for overclocking.
Now I bought a 512 so I got 1gig total
But these 3 sticks mayby doesnt play to well with eachother ://

But the strange thing is that when I remove the 512 and just use slot 1 and 3 I still get severe problems in windows.
And how do I fix the long loading times.
cuz when I quit a mission I‚¬īll often have to wait upp to 30s
Is there any solution?
But buying a new cpu is done http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
