View Full Version : Mini-review of these marvelous games...

IL2/FB: Gorgeous, quirky, full of partially-realized potential.

Reviewer has been working with said title for months, with numerous quibbles, mostly sound and micro-stutter, little else.

Gotta wonder whether the graphical-glitz hasn't displaced some of the game's substance. It's got hardware appetites that would challenge most workstations.

IL2: Magnificent, one-of-a-kind simulation of WW2 aerial combat. Limited in scope by the theatre and selection of aircraft.

Reloaded it this evening, ran the patches and was amazed at just how marvelous it really is. Version 1.2 sets the standard for a mature, full-featured flight-sim.

Interestingly, from a pilots perspective, the graphics are actually somewhat better than FB because of the atmosphere-induced "wash-out" of terrain color that we experience at altitude.

Verdict: IL2 is the better sim; FB has some room to grow.
