View Full Version : Patch Whining continues

I'm not whining bout the patch..I don't even care about it..I'm just sick of people with little tiny nit bits of power locking threads that THEY Deem not necessary or funny. All you do when you lock a thread is further fuel the hate fire that is begining to burn for all things UBI and Mod.

U hate the mods?
For what reason?

U like this IL-2/FB forum to be totally soiled with "GIMME PATCH NOW"-threads?
How about being mature about it and chill out for a week or two?

The_Blue_Devil

Look at the multitude of lockings and then answer. Most of those threads were just in good humor..not actual whines..just jokes..first our scripts now this. The forum was having problems again today..UBI gonna blame the sigs for that next? BTW I don't hate the mods..I resent what they are forced to do and I don't understand what they sometimes choose to do..A La the locked posts.

Maybe those GIMME PATCH NOW threads will actually make Ubi hear us. We've been "chilling out" for a long time, and the patch has been delayed countless times.

Mods acted with discretion and were perfectly appropriate in locking the threads they did.

Besides, the molten lead wasn't meant to maim or kill, it was just supposed to scare off the townsfolk. Honest.

Now can I have my kitty back, I promise I'll be good. Don't let that bad man hurt my kitty, please, please please mister moderator!!!

How about someone asks cowace to open a patchwhining forum?
I'm sure that forum would be a blast.
Think of all the fun threads.

I agree that some posts where fun and that fun is a good thing but c'mon. Keep it in one thread then instead of posting a new one every time.

Ven wouldn't have to do this if they'd just put patch into the language filter. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-tongue.gif

Obviously the patch whining is so intense because the townsfolk know from Oleg that the patch is more or less ready from his side, and they feel that Ubi is holding up the show. I feel that threads that are on topic&mdash;be they whiny or not&mdash;should not be locked. Not that insulting or blantantly spamming threads should not be locked, but if impatience over the patch is what is current, then that should be reflected in the forums.

I do wish that people could keep themselves from starting so many *new* threads, though.

Regards,
Mike

maybe there's a MESSAGE for UBI in all those lock-worthy patchwhining threads, Ven?

maybe, just maybe it's not unadultered spamming but folks would like to hear JUST ONE WORD from the head honcho C. ?

you're just trying to do your job, i know, but it's not helping under these circumstances.

even a msg from Cartrix like "sorry, can't say anything about the patch for that and that reason" would help.

I understand your frustration but sometimes you guys sound like a bunch of kids. Sorry to have to spell it out.
I don't know of anything saying I have the right to patches when I bought FB.
I bought it as is.
FB is still a great game out-of-the-box. It's very much enjoyable and playable.
Therefore I decided to play the game as it is and when I get a patch I will install it.

I'm pretty convinced that Oleg and UBI understand the community's desire to get the patch asap.
But I'm equaly convinced that even if you all choke this forum with patchwhines that won't speed up the relese.
But that's me.

As for locking patchwhining threads, it is our job to keep the forums an enjoyable and on topic forum with posts that follow the guidelines.
The way I see it 20 patch-threads on first page is considered spamming.
If you feel the need to vent then I suggest you post in one of em patch-threads that we leave open.

Any other questions?

Well spoken Ven!
Did I mention that you're my fav mod? Anyway , I don't agree with something in your post

- I don't know of anything saying I have the right to
- patches when I bought FB.

Yes , as a customer buying a product I'm entitled to every piece of patch that can be added if the patch will fix features supposing to work in the product I bought! Stupid exaample.Imagine you'd buy a volvo and you realise that the tank does not have 65 litres but 55 ! Or , something worse , the ABS does not exist although you have it in the specs.

- FB is still a great game out-of-the-box. It's very
- much enjoyable and playable.

Here you are right . But I have something to add to this. When first , so called whiner , came out saying abou a certain FM or sniper AA , stuters and so on , many (mind you ! even among the guys posting now about the patch) hit the roof because of this. The time goes and they , at their turn , realise that , hey , that guy was right! frustration is twice as big because they took position against the whiner , yet they have now to accept it.

- But I'm equaly convinced that even if you all choke
- this forum with patchwhines that won't speed up the
- relese.
- But that's me.

Definitely not! but from n00b to RBJ , errr , sorry , I meant ace , they deserve all anything that sounds as an update from UBI? Don't you think?

- If you feel the need to vent then I suggest you post
- in one of em patch-threads that we leave open.

Errrr... Maybe a good idea. Think about that the holiday season will start soon , I mean this week. Maybe patch posts will decrease in number.

- Any other questions?
When is the release date for the FB patch? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hold up. It was very strongly implied taht this game was going to recieve additional support, in the way of patches and addons, throughout most of this games developmental cycle. People were allowed to continue working on aircraft, and investing considerable amounts of time and effort with the understanding that if they met combany standards, that those aircraft would be incorperated into the game, by the dev team, in patches. If there was an understandign that patches were a "maybe" why should so many peoiple be busting their rears trying to make top quality aircraft for FB, when we could just go over to CFS3 and do it without having to go through the dev team.

If we really are to operate under the assumption of no patches, why the blazes did I put that much time and effort into that Wildcat model I couldn't even complete in FB? I could have simply put it in CFS3 with little more effort, and it would have been pretty well received there too, and I would have actually had something done too.

There is NOTHING ANYWHERE suggesting that a purchaser is entitled to a mod/patch for the product.
However, there is an expectation that when a product is put up for sale, it is 100% complete.
The said product therefore shouldn't require a mod/patch.
Too often computer games are put out without due care on the basis that any problems can be fixed with a later mod.
It is what happened with IL2. People where kept up to date regularly, so it was acceptable.
People where told the new product would be more of the same but BETTER!
On this understanding, purchasers have a right to better service than that which has been displayed to date.

Ven, you're not my favorite mod. That would be... favoritism. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-wink.gif

When we bought FB there was no legal understanding that patches were forthcoming. However, it was quite well understood that there would of course be a patch or patches to upgrade the software. It's unthinkable that there wouldn't be.

However, that is to my mind well beside the point of at least this particular thread. Oleg has made a patch, and we're all quite happy about that. As I understand it, this thread (and a few others) are about the lack of communication from Ubi, and I guess that's what has folks upset.

That's all. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif

First let me ensure you are aware that I too would very much appreciate more and frequent info from UBI.
Even a "we don't know the release date" post would be appreciated.
But choking the forums put the mods in a conflicting situation.
Of course the community should be allowed to vent their frustration. But on the other hand spamming the forums ain't allowed and other posts are obscured.
I will post in mods forum for Cartrix who DO surf these boards on a regular basis. Other than that I suggest e-mailing UBI folks instead for better effect.

Zayets, don't talk bad about Volvos. They're swedish just like I. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
I must say it's hard to compare FB with buying a Volvo. Is there any specs on how often a tanks maingun should hit an approaching plane (just an ex.).
U say something is wrong with a planes FM. Then MiloMorai will disagree with you. And thenIsegrim will join in to disagree with both of you.
So hard to say what is "broken" with the out-of-the-box product and what needs to be fixed.

HarryVoyager, further development of FB was promised. In what way and when wasn't.
The Cat is one of my favs so plz continue with dev:ing it.

We all agree on this but as a mod I'd prefer if you stuck to a couple of threads and used PMs and e-mails more.

Thanks.

And leave the man alone! He's not from UBI. Besides that , everything he said make 100% sense.Well, at least to me...
Ven , I have to say though that i didn't stated in my post that a certain FM is wrong. Although I'm tempted to believe that this is the case. I know nothing how a WW2 bird fly , so I would never say that FM is wrong. For me FM is right on if I crash the plane by doing some stupid things. If we talk about civilian planes , well , that's another story. Have a good one gents!

You know what? The funny thing is I still don't really agree that "Ubi" has horrible communication skills or customer relations. I'm convinced that people are just increasingly impatient. Perhaps Oleg spoiled us with his weekly development updates. I do know that it's only been just over 2 weeks since we've heard something from Oleg himself. I do know that Cartrix is or at least has very recently been on vacation.

Two weeks is not a long time to not get an official update. People are just antsy to get their patch, and their frustration is growing from day to day, so they're venting on Ubi. They're saying that Ubi's product line is crap, Ubi has the worst customer support they've ever seen and they won't be buying any more of their games.

I don't know anything about other games under Ubi's banner, but I do know that I had never experienced anything like the frequent updates at Ubi's www.il2sturmovik.com (http://www.il2sturmovik.com) before joining this forum. Could be my lack of experience with games or sims, but when I look around, I don't see that frequency of updates anywhere except fan sites.

I suppose I'm a numbskull, but I don't get the impatience. I'd like to hear an update, but I can hardly claim that even a month without an update is not caring about customers. Oh well. I still have fun posting in these threads. People are clearly anxious to hear something, anything, and I can understand that.

I feel sorry for Cartrix when he makes his first post here. It always sucks to come back from vacation.

Over,
Mike

Ok seriously. I normally do not take this standpoint...But has anyone else noticed that all the folks saying "Please be patient..why are you guys so upset over a few weeks?...ETC" Are all NEW. Many of the people taking that standpoint are NEW to the Community. They have not been here since the Glory days of the IL2 Beta and IL2 release...When a Personal Conversation with OLEG was a local call instead of dailing Mars like it is now. You could actually have a fight with Oleg online, and believe me he's an ace. I've said it once I'll say it again. We are not used to not being in contact with Oleg or the Dev team. 3 years of constant contact..and then silence does tend to raise some eyebrows. We are not used to this lack of contact or the bugs exsisting in FB that will be fixed in the patch..though not as promptly as they were fixed in IL2. We are d*mn sure not used to Oleg promising a date and not delivering on it. It has never happened before. When you have more than 5 months in the community then talk to Us about whining about the lack of contact. You can't understand where we are coming from because frankly You Haven't been here long enough.

I know it sucks but it's not as bad as many are making it out to be. That's just my feeling. But I've said enough already, I guess.

Show me where Oleg said the patch would be released in 2 1/2 weeks. He mentioned the patch not being done yet, and he mentioned 2 1/2 weeks in the same breath. How do you know he didn't mean that UBI would get it in 2 1/2 weeks when it's done?

Bada bing.

Oleg said patch ready. I confess to that too BUT he prolly ment it was ready to leave his dev team.
Now it's in UBIs hands.
And UBI ain't a power company nor is it Government or a hospital that need to be at service 24/7 365.
It's a regular software company that probably are on vacation now, just like at my office.

Good tactic!

Ok, a subject is annoying for the mods.

So, it's so simple to lock all the threads about this subject except one and the only one unlocked thread will become very fast some kind of crap dustbin in which all the good posts will disappear among the numbers of posts. A very clever tactic to kill the discussion!

Cheeers,

XyZspineZyX

All the crap in one dustbin is better than small amounts of said crap in multiple dustbins.

Did someone say 2.5 weeks is wednesday? I will commence getting hopes up.... now.

Then on the second day, it was made bug free, and He saw that it was good.

Anyway the work over patch almost finished. So I hope to get final result during 2-2,5 weeks."</blockquote>

Hmm, I just read this more carefully. On June 21, work on the patch was "almost finished." Oleg would be away. So he hoped to get the final result in the next 2-2.5 weeks. According to his estimate, sounds like he would have the patch finished from his end. Ubi could be just now getting the patch. Buzz is right, patch completion is not synonymous with patch release. Oleg did not write to us that the patch would be released 2-2,5 weeks from June 21.

That's why I think that all of the anticipation over the patch is kind of silly. As this thread points out, the only valid complaint we have comes from the desire to just hear something from Oleg or Ubi.

Cheers,
Mike
