Guess what? I got Pacific Fighters for Christmas http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But I only got around to playing it yesterday.

I decided to start a pilot career flying for the RAAF in the Beaufighter. Took off fine and was following the five other Beaus when we dropped down a little into a ravine. I started climbing out when I notice the S/L suddenly crying for help and crashing. Then I watched as the four other Beau crashed straght into the hillside as though it wasn't there. Oh dear on me own, so I carried on and wrecked 7 parked zeros http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Then I started the next mission, it was a bit of a long hall across new guinea so I put her into Auto pilot at x8 speed for a bit. Then I watched in horror as I was too slow to get to the controls as she and the other Beaus did the same kamikazee dive into a hill side...

Tell me this is a bug, or is it that Australian pilots are so full of Fosters that they cannot fly http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I have installed the 3.0.3 update and have the right drivers installed.

m8 try "Time Skip" option instead of 8x time compression. It is somewhat faster. Screen goes black, and in right corner you see time.. When you reach your waypoint, or when enemies (a/c *and* flak) are nearby, you are back from your 'warp'.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Try it I guarantee you that you will love it..

If you know about this, then sorry for bothering. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I just flew another mission in my New Guinea Beaufighter campaign - no crashing here, haven't seen it since the first DGEN fix (which was put out within days of PF's release).

My squadron is always taking off from Port Moresby and the mission map shows 4 waypoints around the airbase (gaining height) before heading off towards the target area.

The only losses my squadron has sustained in this campaign (9 missions so far) have been due to AAA, air combat, or ditching due to damage - no accidental lawn darts.

Cheers

DGEN fix? Er what's this? I have put the 3.0.3 updater on but it still does the suicidal lawn darts. the crashing is normally well into the mission.

I will try this time warp thing sounds cool, not completely familiar with PF yet...

When I get around to it I will give this a try - I quite like flying the Beaufighter http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi BuzzSaw,

Love your Beaufighter campaign - excellent mission parameters - really well thought out!

I have a question about the Beau: has anybody noticed that the artificial horizon indicator arrow does not light up? It doesn't for me and I have a hell of a time flying in the pitech dark without it. The dial lights up, but not the aircraft attitude reference.

HMM it would seem that i;m in the same boat as you. First thing i did when i got my hands on PF was to hunt out the Beau missions only to be disapointed whrn every mission i fly i loose my entire flight to the devilish ground.

Only way i've found to get around it so far is to keep a close eye on my position on the map and switch out of AP as i approach the mountains and to climb over them. However this only works if i'm the flight leader, other wise i survive and the rest of my flight make nice little smoking stains on the New Guniea country side.

I've read over the replys to your post and am going to follow them up but had a couple of questions.

Did the update make any difference at all? and do you know of any other ways to prevent this happening? Oh and finally whats this DGEN fix thing and where could i find it?

Cheers

There is a DGEN.exe file in the main game folder - this is what drives the dynamic campaign generation. Shortly after PF's release Luthier (Ilya Shevchenko) put out an updated DGEN.exe that addressed the poor waypoint generation on maps with mountains.
Since then the DGEN.exe has been upgraded a couple of times - the most recent version is included in the 3.03 patch (should have a date of 17/12/2004).

Which base are you flying from and where is the target area? As stated my squadron is operating out of Moresby - so far all but one mission have been up to the Buna AO (the other one was down to Milne Bay).

Have you tried starting a new campaign?

You will have to assign a key to this function - its called something like 'Time Skip' and is explained in the readme file.
How fast it works is totally dependant on the speed of the PC and how much is going on in the game world. Its advantages over normal time acceleration are fewer AI collisions and that it stops when you reach a waypoint or encounter the enemy.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif No what you mean mate, lol but it could be VB's, not Fosters. But hey, it coulda been the local drinks, you never know whats in them New Guinea drinks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'll try that scripted Beau Campaign, because again, this was my first pilot career, and I pranged it in the Owen Stanleys.

But what was that Time Skip option, Atomic_Marten? Where can you get it from?

Cheers,
HBR

You sure it's not the Tooheys that's the problem? But anyway we all know the best beer in Australia comes from New Zealand.

Back on topic, I'm downloading the latest patch now so hopefully that will solve the suicidal tendancies of the pilots. Untill such time as that finally downloads i'm gonna go play with Buzzsaw's Beau campaign.

Happy Hunting kiddies.

Oh one other thing i forgot to mention in the last post. I tried the time skip function mentioned and still left a smoking stain on the Owen Stanleys. Guess that even though you can't see the hills you still can't fly through them. Bugger.

Ah a patch fixes everything.

just got 3.03 installed and we're now flying at 1500 meters. although i did find one trap for the unwary and that is you will need to start a new campaign for the changes to take effect. So i guess we'll have a morale problem soon now that the amber fluid is no longer flowing.

happy hunting kiddies

Flying from Port Moresby the very first Aus campaign. Thinking back I did originally fly this campaign on 27th Dec at about 2am in the morning using v3.0 PF but it was late so I quit out half way through. Then I updated to 3.03 and started off again with the same pilot and watched the suicide beaufighters. Then when I flew the next sortie they done it again as I said originally.

Since I made a ****-up of the creating a pilot originally (listed as John Doe) I recreated him so I will fly it again over the weekend and see if it still happens.

As far as tipple is concerned, I am a not really a larger lout anymore, I prefer Dorset beer espcially The Badger Brewery - perhaps that's why I didn't crash originally http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

A South Australian, eh? Well I won't knock Coopers, seeing as though its a bewt drop n' all - except that the only way to get it cheaply is to live in South Australia http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

And XXXX is crafted with precision - or at least it has been since the Japanese bought the company out and refitted all the plants http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Still beats having to drink Tooheys, anyway.

Have you guys tried FULL MISSION BUILDER with Beaufighters? I made a custom mission where 4 Beaufighters were attacking against the japanese carrier.

Beaufighters only do a kamikaze run against the carrier while they should be dropping torpedoes. This must be a bug.

Also I haven't been able to take off from any carrier when building missions with FULL MISSION BUILDER. Planes only explode when starting the mission. Weird.

I'm using FB+AEP+PF merged.

WalterNowotny - these are not bugs, your mission is not built correctly.
Full introductory instructions for the FMB are included in the manual.pdf on one of the game discs (this is mentioned in the print manual).

If you have the last waypoint set to attack a ship then the game interprets that as a kamikaze attack - this is a feature. You must add additional waypoints after the target if you don't want this to occurr.

To take off from a carrier the flight must have the carrier selected as the 'target' for the takeoff waypoint.

For more help with FMB post in the Mission Builder Forum.
