So far, we know historically that Leonardo Da Vinci was in the employ of Cesare Borgia and a close friend during the timeline of Brotherhood.

In the E3 gameplay, it is implied that Da Vinci even aided Cesare Borgia during the Seige of Monteriggioni. Cesare hinting at it himself and using a pistol of Assassin origin is already suspicious enough, but I can't be certain.

Yet another article mentions "Leonardo's Unique War Machine..."

That, my fellow AC-fans (or those who have no idea) was the first ever schematics for a Military Tank created by Leonardo himself.

Historically, Da Vinci sabotaged his own designs and reversed causing the tank to work improperly. Leonardo placed the misinformation in his design as a form of security if somebody stole his design and used the tank irresponsibly.

i think that lenardo was probably told to go and "help" Borgia by Ezio so that he can gain information.

This is where Ubi goes off on a tangent from real history.

In the real world, Machiavelli, along with another, was sent to meet the Cesare in an attempt to save Florence from being added to the Borgia Dukedom of the Romagna. It is believed that Da Vinci was used as collateral to help save Florence - so he was forced so to speak in serving. He did help Borgia as a sort of spy though as he traveled the countryside. Of course, it is believed he was friends with Machiavelli and also relayed information about Borgia to Machiavelli for Florence's gain. Also, Ubi's portrayal off Caterina Sforza and Machiavelli being buddies is also a stretch of what actually happened.

Da Vinci did however after serving with Borgia have reservations about his military designs and never published any of them for fear of them being used.
