Filter 'tis silly.

'46 Rocks! (And I've only viewed the bonus material DVD 'cause my copy is a gift for my dad and goes under the tree...and THEN I get to install it for him and test it out! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif )

I'm having a problem with installing AEP. Whenever I go and click setup in the disk, it tells me that I don't have Forgotten Battles. I do have FB, version 1.22. Can Anyone Help? Thanks

Is the filter new? I never noticed it before this post. Kind of ridiculous.

okay, i got the patches stuff sorted and now i have loaded FB V2.04 ace expansion all over the screen etc. except it still won't load a 1941 bob campaign

i am not interested in the PF game yet and can't install it yet as i have lost disc 2!

Wy didn't <b style="color:black;background-color:#a0ffff">Ubi[/b] make these games to work together out of the box!? very poor show

i deleted and removed the lot, reinstalled it all

1.0 > 1.22 patch

AEP (i was able to get a us d-day mission to load)

v1.02 patch

v1.04 patch

i rebooted after very install

now the game will not load, no error message, it just closes itself.

You do not need to patch between FB and AEP as AEP will patch that for you, but that should not be the problem, ok what error message are you getting, because there is one that is fixed by replacing the RTS file in the game folder.
I do wish people wouldnt simply remove and reload as that can cause the odd prob in itself....... as you are now finding....

HAVE you got the patches in the right order?...

more help here

BTW they have addressed you query, the 1946 disc everyone is talking about is a DVD that has FB AEP AND PF along with all the other patches and pay to download add ons that are available all on one DVD and one complete install.... it is ??18.00 UK

Also when you unzip the patches, have you let the game install where it wanted to, ie on c drive or did you put it in a different folder like games or a different drive? if so you might have to tell the patches where the game is so it can unzip them in the folder.

As far as I know, you don't need to add patches between the add-ons; for example, if you simply add AEP to FB right after installing (and testing) FB, it will bring you right up to level 2.0. You should then be able to then play FB/AEP 2.0 for a few minutes to confirm that it works, and then restart your computer before installing PF.

It should offer you the option of a merged install with Forgotten Battles/Aces Expansion Pack, and that's what you want to select.

If this is done successfully, then you will have version 3.0m, with all the FB/AEP patches included with the Pacific Fighters merged install.

To recap: Install Forgotten Battles, then restart your computer. Open up Forgotten Battles, play it a few minutes to confirm that it's okay (and to reward yourself), and then install Aces Expansion Pack. Restart the computer, and open Forgotten Battles/AEP and note that the opening splash screen says version 2.0, play it for a bit to see if it's a good install and then do the MERGED install of Pacific Fighters. Make sure that they all install into the proper folder (I installed FB/AEP/PF on Drive F, and the game upgrades sometimes want to install themselves in Drive C). Restart your computer, and confirm that you now have 3.0m and a Corsair in your splash screen. Play for a bit, to make sure it installed right, and then Defrag.

Now you can install all those wonderful patches up to 4.04m (and that 'm' is important; it designates the merged patch as opposed to the corresponding PF standalone patch).

As a matter of practice, and I've done this a disturbing number of times without any serious problems, <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">I recommend restarting your computer after every patch or upgrade installation,</span> playing the game for a short bit to ensure that the patch/upgrade 'took', and then installing the next patch/upgrade. It takes some time, but I've found it worthwhile.

Defragging your Hard Drive wouldn't hurt either. I find that most of my fragmented files are from FB/AEP/PF anyway.

Hope this helps. Wouldn't want this to spoil your Christmas.

oh well,

after spending my money on these copies that need to be hacked and patched to death for a chance of them working i now find i need to spend more money on buying the newest release that does what the others should have done in the first place.

Is <b style="color:black;background-color:#a0ffff">ubi[/b]-soft anything to do with microsoft by any chance?

Don't get me wrong, i think the sim is excellent - when its working. But why the hell can't a 'simple' expansion pack add on to the original as its (i assume) supposed to?

BTW, i installed patches in correct order.

either the discs i have are faulty, the patches are wrong or have bits missing or the instructions are incorrect. If i am doing it wrong - what can i do wrong?

i have had all sorts of errors;

failed to load HIM
failed to load mission
game crashing/closing within 30 seconds of starting
no map of so and so
when i did manage to get into AEP bob screen in was showing a map of Finland!
Then it crashed/frooze on loading

Maybe when i get bored with all the other sims that simply load and play and i have another 6 hours to devote to this mess, or, i decide to pay the ransom and buy the 1946 DVD i will find the rest of the IL2 series to be as good as they look on the packaging.

I wish i'd kept my money and never bought the 'expansion' discs.

Rant over. thanks for your attempts to help.

I give up.

Not new, but a new word has been added. I've already asked admin to do something about excluding the filter action when that word is part of a longer non-profane word.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Please do not give up to early, a thought is the game could be running open GL or Direct X and that causes it to crash, the other is the sound card settings........... If it would help I might be able to spend an hour or so on MSN Messenger with you tomorrow evening......... before i go up north for the hols

Technically the word is not always profane by itself. But I guess there is more risk of people talking about ********* here than about academic honors conferred, etc ...

Sadly, at the moment we also can't discuss certain cloud formations, or say anything but 'all-encompassing mega-patch.'<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
