Whatever its called, the one other than metric http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

Apparently we will have a choice according to a little bird, now I won't have to guesstimate how fast I'm going http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

For PF could an option be made for empirical unit measurements?

The Americans are a big part of Pacific fighters, and it would be really off for them to use metric measurements. Not to mention for those of us in the states, its alot easier than using meters and kilometers.

I recommend you use cockpits. US planes do have imperial instruments.

And metric is just fine, it is used by most countries in the world. Americans are a big part, but not the biggest. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yes, but making the units used in speedbar a choice for the player should be simple and pleases everyone.

The speedbar is a great sim aid, IMO. Since I cannot shift my "eyes", the speedbar gives bare info if I am looking away from the front windscreen. Not everyone has TIR, and not all cockpit instruments work in FB

not to mention that the gauges are sometimes too small.

Yes us americans are stubborn about not switching to metric. We tried it a while ago, and now we have a generation of people who can't measure in either system http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

It probably wouldn't be too much work to simply add a menu option to have a choice and to write an equation to display mph/feet instead of kph/meters

metric shmetric. I'll never give up my half-nine wrench

empirical units as in "faster than an eagle" ?

just want to make sure http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I prefer metric in the speed bar as the map grids are in km. Navigation is easier if you're measuring both distance & speed in km / km per hour http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

A little bird tells me we will have both imperial and metric available. So you can use whatever suits you. A fine and logical solution.

You mean IMPERIAL units not empirical units.

personally i would prefer the option to
use either metric or imperial. it should be up to the player.

European Air War offered this toggle. It was great for me. I gained a basic understanding of metric measurments. It made IL-2 a little easier.

As for PF, let's see, IL-2 and it's decendents dealt with the Eastern/European Front where the "native" unit of measurement is metric. No problem with that.

The Pacific Air War was primarily fought by US forces whose "native" unit of measurement is imperial.

But since a goodly portion of the flyers are from a non-imperial portion of the world, let's toggle OK?

"Whatever its called, the one other than metric"

Cubits per moon rather than km/h?

Yes, it will be really important to have adjustable speedbars given we have planes that measure speed in miles per hour, kilometers per hour, and knots.

Speaking of knots:
Isn't the Zero's speedometer supposed to work in knots? In FB it shows kph and thus runs out of gauge room at only 300 kph. Plus, I know the Zero can stay in the air at relatively low speeds, but can it really land at only 80 kph? It needs to be fixed.

the little birds suggest you stop worrying about this matter-

I've seen some PF screens where it's saying km/h, m and deg behind the values in the speedbar. It's really looks like you will be able to switch it then.

What we really need is an option to show heading in radians instead of degrees!

Empirical X is X based on experience. But yeah, I think there should be an option... would be nice if the metric scale were used for japanese planes and the imperical for american planes.

The speedbar is in imperial units already.

You are just going really, really fast.

hrmm that really didn't help at all. Now I'm confused about what they will be doing.

1cMaddox is supposed to be very anal retentive about historical accuracy, and the US using metric is about as historical as flying a FW 190 off a carrier in the pacific.

from reading the threads, US guages already read imperial, it would be just a simple matter of making the speed bar read what the american guages reads, even if it is IAS and not TAS. Even the oh so crappy cfs3 let you switch between metric and imperial.

Hm. You say it did not help. Well in my experience large majority of threads that are related to stuff that should be in game, that are porked and need fixing and you know, all the stuff --that need changing in game-- are proven to be unsuccesfull. No matter how smart or needed they are to be implemented in-game. There are exceptions, tho. Look at the PF FMB ideas (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=26310365&m=507107524) that also covers all variety of different stuff.

If you did not see that, well as the time goes by I bet that you would have the similar opinion as I do about this issue.

I do support this whine. It is realistic and its not too much to ask. Just give us the options of the units we want to use.

hahahah yeahhhhh. ummmmm well brother...i hate to tell you.....but you better get ready to see a whole boatload of $hit like that one PF ships. 90% of all servers will have German CR@P planes flying all over the South West Pacific.
What a F*ckin' shame. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
