Thats the rumor...theres a few new cards on tap from both nVidia and AMD/ATI by end of the year. I think we'll know more in about two or three weeks.

I think the new card will be the 8800GT. From what I understand, they feel no need to release their next generation GPU until ATI can match the performance of the current 8800 series.

I have the 8800GTX. There are very few programs/sims/games that can take advantage of the card's full capabilities...DX10 being just one such advanced card feature, and there is no "DX11" in the foreseeable future (3-5 years?).
What would be the point of marketing an even more advanced card until software catches up? Develop the technology, yes...but from a marketing/sales point of view, what advantage is gained by releasing it in 4Q2007 or even before 2Q2008? I think they would sell a heck of a lot more 8800 series cards at Christmas time (at a very decent mark-down price from it's original price 6 months ago) than they would trying to sell a brand new, Top-Price, 9XXX card.
A hypothetical example:
20,000 8800 cards at $350 each would equal $7M in sales
5,000 9XXX cards at $750 each would equal Less than $4M in sales

imho

The Graphic card industry really milks these cards.

That's because the competition (ati) is sleeping. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
