Its early 1940 around late January early Febuary and I'm running on the surface about dusk hours. My WO yells AIRCRACT on the port bow. Ive been playing for awhile and I think I can blow this Swordfish out of the air with ease. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/351.gif He comes closer and closer and to my amazement he is getting ready to make a perfect bomb run on my VIIB. This guy is smart. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif ITS too late to dive and Im gona have to fight it out. I scream HARD to PORT and flank speed now. Its too late too close I push Otto out of the way and grab ahold of the AA gun myself and start blasting. He comes right over me and dives. He literly dropped the bomb into the hatch, into the conning tower, into the control room hitting the weapons officer in the head until finally hitting the floor and blew us in two. I've never seen such accuary this early or even from that little Swordfish. The last thing I saw was that bomb in free flight and then that great screen of death. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif Which would have been the last thing I saw since I was on the conning tower.

Anyway I've been playing since September in real time and I've never seen this accuary this early. Usually when they attack the bomb is about 100 yards away from me in all directions. Since I play D.I.D. I have a much more found respect for these lil guys. I see one in my new career and I just crash dive so I dont have to start over. Anybody else expereince this from a bi-plane or any other crafts later in the war?

sorry for any misspellings lol

Wow, ive never had such acuraccy from a sword fish, usually they miss by miles and are easy to nail. I havent seen too may sword fish, they are supposed to be carrier aircraft not land based, so its usually hurricanes.

Planes are abit rushed in SH3, I think the devs rushed their reserch in to ASW planes of WW2, aircraft AI is very basic, many different weapon systems are missing as are some of the most common ASW planes used by costal command.
real swordfish were oftern armed with a torpeedo or 8 rockets aswell as their depth charge load out

The Lockheed Hudson and its sister the Ventura, where pretty much the staple ASW plane for coastal command they were usually loaded with depth charges but could also carry a single torpeedo instead.

The Bristol Beaufighter and the De havilland mosquito should be in the game instead of the Hurricane.

The mosquito was a real pain for uboats over Biscay It could carry 8 rockets, or depth charges and had either 4 200mm cannons or a single 57mm cannon, it also had 4 browning .303" machine guns.

The Beaufighter was equally deadly had similar weapons and was also sometimes equiped with single torpeedo.

Both could be equipped with searchlight on the belly, at night they homed in on a surfaced Uboat with Radar - then lit it up just as they moved in for the kill!
Beaufighters and Mosquitos caused such a problem for Uboats over Biscay - Goering finnaly helped out and deployed some FW 190s and JU88s (Night fighter varients) to help fend them off.

Other Coastal comand Aircraft not in SH3 include:

B17 flying fortress
Handley page Halifax (a common sight for Uboats based in bergan)
Armstrog Witworth Whitley
Avro Anson (early war - replaced by the Hudson)
Bristol Beufort (used for anti-shipping not ASW)

I respect your manly DiD play, biting the bullet and writing off your career. It certainly makes you play more for real that way.

O! I wish I could have gotten a beautiful screenshot. I was just in shock and aw. I think the Tommy wrote something on the bomb like "The early bird gets the worm"....I don't know, happened to quickly for me to read his inspiring message. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
