I don`t understand why so much noise over trackIR. Cause you can see 360? So what? Most people flying open view, icons, externals...blah blah blah...even that they claim that there are FR junkies.
Yeah, i have TrackIR, and i use whatever latest driver they offer and no, it doesn`t allow 360...so what? I still think it`s second best thing since joystick! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Those who don´t have it are afraid to be in disadvantage. I don´t have it & I´m not afraid - I just fly... This is all based on rumours I think - no big deal.

I don't think it's the fact that you can see 180 degrees behind you, it's the fact that if you sweep down first to rear view, you can sweep rear view back and forth just like you can in forward...ie. no movement lock.

Big difference than just seeing 180. Snap view, you have to traverse all the way back.

The Tir users putting up pictures conveniently omit that fact.

Forget the pictures, and watch the tracks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

EDIT: For clarity...I'm talking about the old drivers..not the latest fixed ones.

EDIT: Imagine evading an enemy on your six...who needs externals when you can sweep like this...it IS externals with no externals http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif HUGE advantage.

I've viewed the track that was made available of someone using the TIR 360 view and I have to say that I was thinking of Linda Blair as well. I don't really care if anyone uses it or not but it definitely gives you an advantage, especially when tracking the opponent behind you e.g. after the merge or just scanning for the enemy. I think most people that purchase TIR are trying to take a further step towards realism and the track I saw is anything but realistic so I guess most people with TIR would probably choose to use the updated software that prevents the unrealistic views that are in question.

Cheat or exploit....seeing through 360 degrees isn't really a "sim" experience...very arcadish...otherwise the de-"TrackIR"s shouldn't worry. TrackIR and similar devices are an attempt to improve on the virtual reality experience and should be applauded.

Most people do applaud the technology...I know I do.

What sparks the debate is the Fact that with the original drivers, you get views that non Tir users don't. ie. full 180 PLUS sweep.

Add the fact that for most of these nimrods that use this driver, that isn't a big enough advantage for them...they also host games with padlock off (claiming it is unrealistic while their head swivels 360 deg. SPHERICALY in mid air in the cockpit) forcing the non Tir users to traverse side to side with hatswitch or mouse to check SOME of their six.

This is definately something Oleg HAS to address in the game. Either way, stop the full rear view sweep, or allow it for everyone, but it has to be the same for everyone...seems like a no-brainer to me.
