I find it incredibly hard to land with the VTOL Heinkel. Is it just me?

Are you descending more than 5 m/s?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It's actually very easy. Just do not drop the throttle below 25 percent or so or the stabilizers will not work. And i descend around 100kph and then give full throttle shortly before touching down. Slows me down to 5 m/s and then i land.
Just landing in a particular spot is not that easy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Ha! You guys are already talking about landing! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I can't even lift this apparatus up into the air!

Start the two engine, throttle up gently trying to keep it straight up, sometimes even get it into a hover, but then it usually flips over and slider over de ground spinning like a piece of fireworks! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Just turn on the vertical stabilizer before take off. It´s the key you´ve mapped your combat flaps to.

It's not the flaps, but the airbrake key.

And: To take off, just push the stick half-way forward and slam the throttle forward. It will lift off like a helicopter gaining horizontal speed. It's incredible acceleration will let it have enough speed quickly so you won't even stall.

I wonder if anyone will manage to takeoff and land without the stabilizers. The stabilizers just move the control surfaces, right? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I took off without stabilizers on my first try... the plane wants to bank left after it gets airborne but I just give a bit of right aileron and it straightens itself out ...I didn't even know about stabilizers lol... I haven't landed the thing yet though.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I'm so friggin' pleased with myself right now http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

after a couple of failed attempts I finally have a decent control over the Lerche on it's landing phase... I even managed to move the thing around to land on just the spot I wanted...

Landing have done that already. After 5 tries. But how to park to the trolley in is harder. Over 30 % it falls over .<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

No problem with landing..."standing" is another question, the "Lerche" is quite unstable as long as the engines are on.

mrsiCkstar
12-09-2006, 03:23 PM
that's odd... I haven't had problems with standing... I even abused the rudder before take off while the engines were running but it didn't tip over...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I used two atemts to get off the ground, hehe dont know why but i tipt over eaven whit the stabilizer on. But on my first atemt I landet the thing exatley where I intended to, It arent that hard to control the landing when you understan how it work.

But dang that thing flyes. from 0-600 km in no time, an stright up.

I tried it again, the instability was caused by the uncalibrated joystick. Just as I expected.

Now what a "plane"! Forget the Me 163, the Lerche has nearly the same rate of climb, but none of the disadvantages of the "Kraftei".
