Hi everyone!
I’m new to this forum and, like the rest of you, a huge fan of Assassin’s Creed! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif
I’m not quite sure how I’ll survive until November, but oh well…

Anyway, I was wondering what kind of team is required to make such an epic game like AC.
So you guys at Ubi decided you wanted to develop something us gamers have never seen before. What was your next step?

I mean, besides from the obvious story writers, game developers and all the tech staff, what kind of people did you recruit, or consult, when building the AC masterpiece? Historians? Architects? Illustrators?

I would really like if you could elaborate on this. I’m really curious about what kind of people worked together to make AC a reality… At least to give some of us writers and artists who can’t write a line of code the hope of someday being involved in something as massive as this project! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Welcome to the forums, feel free to browse through and give your opinions (just don't say anything to loud or offensive).

The development team for Assassin's Creed II is well over 400 people now. Can't name every job on the team, but I'm sure others would be happy to post information if they find it. They have historians, voice actors, directors, designers, composers, artists, script writers, and about a billion programmers and tech experts... that's all I know.

Back on topic, most game devs working on a sequel start from "this team did this well, who among them are suited to making it better next time?" - then keep those people and find others who can work with them well. Dev teams are created organically over time. They change during the course of development, usually increasing in size.

Over 400? That's massive!
My sweet, sweet boyfriend just pre-order the Black Edition for me (I guess he's ok with my AC addiction http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif ) and I know there will be “behind the scenes” material.
It would be great if we could actually see the team working on the game, at Ubi…

I had the great privilege of visiting the Montreal studio back in February of this year and it was amazing. I think most gamers have seen images of huge rows of PC's, with loads of people crowding around and working on a massive game but Montreal was something else.

An entire floor of the Ubisoft building was dedicated to Assassin's Creed 2. Hundreds of talented people, all working towards a common goal, it was a sight to behold. Not just Games Designers but amazing Concept Artists, Level Designers, Writers, and without dedicated Historians, how else could you make the game feel right?

Raide, that must have been an amazing experience! I would kill (assassinate? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ) for the opportunity of watching that team at work! I work closely with a team of software developers (not game development, unfortunately) as a part of the non technical staff and I can only imagine what it’s like to be involved in the creative and technical process of a project like AC.
