one note , upon installing & doing the set-up , i had just set all the different marking options in the Mat Manager & clicked on close . . . . . when halfway thru transferring the files over i got a run-time-error

but this might have been due to it was a complete install & was transferring all files over for the first time (& i run with mat Manager giving all it can Aces http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif)

okies , off to test now

Hi all,
Firstly I'd like to say thank you to those of you that have posted messages of support and encouragement on the Forums and sent me e-mails. So far I have identified and, I believe, fixed two bugs in v1.94.

Both of these are not in the actual program code but consist of missing MAT files. The first bug occurs when selecting the Luft. Randomised numbering option and the Luft. Default option in the Weathered I.D codes section at the same time.

I recommend that you select the Luft. Weathered option in the Weathered I.D codes section as this will display the new weathered, re-positioned and re-colopured Luftwaffe numbering/lettering on Luftwaffe bombers, stukas and twin-engined fighters. However I understand that some of you might wish not to do so and wish to display the game-default numbering/lettering on these aircraft. The second bug occurs when selecting the "Jabo" (black triangle graphic) option and causes a "53 error".

I will be producing a small self-extracting patch this evening which will contain the MAT files required to solve both of these problems and I will upload it as soon as possible. I will also re-do my main IL2-MAT Manager download to include these files and re-upload,

I will post the download link for the patch to this posting.

Best Regards

Hi Ace,

Thanks for the work, i have dowbload and install, but it show IL2mat required. So what should i download?

11-17-2004, 07:46 AM
So that explains the 53 error. You people really are all over the subject of community satisfaction. Big thanks for the feedback, Aces and crew. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

And this baby does what it does at lightning speed now.

Thanks for all your work and effort. It's a wonderful job you've done! Simply brilliant http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

This program looks like a wonderful addition to IL2FB etc...

But for those of us with PF installed as a standalone....can we use this thing?

Hi guys,

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

IL2-MAT is required to work with MAT Manager. The setup pprogram for IL2-MAT is included in the download and full installation and config information for both programs is included in the documentation file.

IL2-MAT / MAT Manager and Pacific Fighters stand-alone installs.

A few words about using IL2-MAT and IL2-MAT Manager with stand-alone installations of Pacific Fighters.

IL2-MAT and MAT Manager are compatible with Pacific Fighters stand-alone installations. There is a new "il2hook.dll" file included in both my IL2-MAT Manager v1.94 download and also as a seperate download in my IL2 MAT download page.

If you let the MAT and TGA files supplied un-zip into the FB folder you need not make any changes to the normal way of configuring IL2-MAT as show in the IL2-MAT and MAT Manager program documentation and also on the top left of my FAQ page.

You WILL need to make sure that you copy the new il2hook.dll into you IL2-MAT folder else IL2-MAT will not detect Pacific Fighters launching and copy the files. This new il2hook.dll is ONLY needed for stand-alone operation of PF and not the combined installation. This is because Pacific Fighters uses a new executable (PF.exe) to launch the game.

By the way the new il2hook.dll is fully backwards-compatible and will work with all versions of the game, IL-2 Sturmovik, Forgotten Battles, Aces Expansion Pack and Pacific Fighters.

IL2-MAT will naturally only display markings on the plane-set that is included in PF. IL2-MAT Manager will copy all the files according to your selections as will IL2-MAT but of course these files won't be used by the game as they refer to markings for planes and countries which aren't included in Pacific Fighters.

Best Regards

sorry I'm a bit slow in replying, been a very busy last 24 hours.

Yes, if you start from scratch then the easiest way to do things is as follows:

1. Run the IL2-MAT Manager installer. This will offer a default install path for the files used by the program of C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles. Change this to the full directory path of your Pacific Fighters game directory.

2. Let the install continue and install IL2-MAT Manager to its default directory of C:\Program Files\IL2-MAT Manager.

3. Install the IL2-MAT Program to its default directory of C:\Program Files\IL2MAT

4. Copy (unzip) the il2hook.dll file included in the download into your IL2MAT directory replacing the earlier one of the same name located there.

5. Run IL2-MAT and then right click on its system tray icon and then click on "configure". Configure it as per the instructions in the program documemtation file EXCEPT change all paths for C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Forgotten Battles to the path of your PF directory being carefull to leave the "custom markings location" path ending in "CoopRegt/"

6. Exit the configuration and save the settings then right click again on the system tray icon and click on "active".

7. Run IL2-MAT Manager from its desktop icon and when it asks you for the location of il2.exe enter the path of your Pacific Fighters directory and exit to save settings.

8. Make your choices of markings in IL2-MAT Manager and quit.

9. Run PF and you should see your choices of markings in the game.

Hope this helps, get back to me if anything's un-clear.

Now that the new patch is out, is it possible to run 1.94.1 of Mat manager with the improved executable included as part of 3.01? I assume that IL2 Mat points towards il2.exe when launching the game, but the new il2fb_new.exe offers a considerable improvement in performance.

And thanks for all your hard work. Mat manager is an incredible program that adds tremendously to the enjoyment of this game!

Well i have to say i'm quite astounded by this program, this is the first time i've installed this and after quite some time trying to suss out how to get it to work (probably due to the last two remaining brain cells i have left, after the Motorhead concert i went to at the weekend http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)...i'm very impressed with the difference it makes...thank you

I havent got the patch yet bu don't anticipate any problems with the new exe. The latest il2hook.exe included in the v1.94/1.94.1 download will detect il2.exe. il2fb.exe or pf.exe launching. So if the new game exe has on of these names the all should be fine. I'll test as soon as I have the patch installed.

After some quick testing, Mat Manager v1.94.1 works correctly with PF 3.01m using the original .exe launch icon, but does not load using the NEW .exe icon. Other than that, I don't see much difference in FPS between the two launch options (TheBlackDeath.ntrk):

FPS with old launch: 24/57/4 (ave/max/min)
FPS with new launch: 23/65/7

Both options seem to load quicker, and aside from the horrid default insignia in the new launch exe, I don't see any difference in image quality. Both options seem subjectively to be better than 3.0 IQ (better splashes, water texture at water=0,1 and 3.)

I'm also still unable to get the Weathered Romanian insignia to load, though the rest of the nationalities weathered stuff is loading right. I'm ready to drop back ten yards and punt on that one, and just fly the rest of the campaign with a skin that includes insignia.

Overall, I'm really happy with the artwork and performance of v1.94.1. Thanks for the effort, guys.

edit: forgot to mention fps test .ntrk

Thanks for the report I should have patch tonight and I'll be able to see what's what.

Regarding the weathered Romanian marking try toggling the Romanian setting to "Disabled" or "Default", exit MAT Manager and then re-launch MAT Manager and set the option to "Weathered" this will force the program to re-copy the correct MAT file to CoopRegt for that option.

I definitely fixed this in v1.94.1. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hope this helps,

Best Regards

Aces, thanks for the tip. It's got to be operator error, I'll try your suggestion. I've gone so far as uninstalling, reinstalling 1.93, copying the 1.93 CoopRegt folder, uninstalling and then installing 1.94.1, and copying 1.93's CoopRegt/National Markings/Romania folder into 1.94.1. That didn't work, but I may have goofed something up in the process. Thanks for your patience.

Hi m8,

No problem,

The bug was in the code not in the folders or files. Re-cycling the appropriate option and quitting the program (so that file copy will occur) will force the right MAT file(s) to be copied from the correct sub-folder to the main CoopRegt folder. The reason I mentioned setting "Disabled" or "Default" and then repeating with the "Weathered" setting is because if the program's current option setting is "Weathered" as stored in the .ini file and the correct MAT file(s) for this option aren't in CoopRegt then it needs to be set to something else eg. "Default" and then after re-running, back to "Weathered" to get the Program back into sync with the files or vice-versa http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Best Regards
