Is it just an updated "Omega Man"?

If you mean the film then yes I guess so, but the original book, I am Legend, from 1954's a proper little classic. Oddly enough I read it for the first time about a month ago and for a 50 year old peice of sci-fi/horror it's hardly dated at all. I've not seen The Omega Man but The Homega Man Simpson's Halloween Special is an interesting contemporary take on this old tale.

Well answered my own question getting you a link for "Omega Man".... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067525/

"British studio Hammer had planned production of Matheson's own scripted version of "I am Legend" entitled "The Night Creatures". However, after being deemed too graphic by censors, the script was rejected and the project lingered, eventually dying."

"Robert Neville, a doctor, due to an experimental vaccine, is the only survivor of an apocalyptic war waged with biological weapons. The plague caused by the war has killed everyone else except for a few hundred deformed, nocturnal people calling themselves "The Family". The plague has caused them to become sensitive to light, as well as homicidally psychotic. They believe science and technology to be the cause of the war and their punishment, and Neville, as the last symbol of science, the old world, and a "user of the wheel", must die. Neville, using electricty, machinery, and science attempts to hold them at bay."

Which in itself was a remake, with a twist, of "The Last Man on Earth" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058700/

By crazy coincidence I've just finished rereading the original novel, first read it years ago.
I would recomend people to read it, it really is very good.

P.S Im actually looking forward to the film as it seems like it will be close to the original story, not some daft 're-imagining'.

I heard that it will be just another Will Smith action flic.

Might turn out to be good fun.

I remember watching The Last Man on Earth, awesome movie

As for this one, being the 3rd remake if I remember correctly (Omega Man, Neville, I am Legend), I heard that it's not the greatest movie, but all right. Of corse it's a given that it'l never be as great as the original

yes the Omega Man - and lets not forget that classic 70's supporting actor Anthony Zerbe hahah - the pessimistic news anchorman turned leader of the albino zombies..

Great film - if you've never seen it - see it
