View Full Version : Patrol Dilemma

I am in the 10th Flotilla at Lorient France. I have patrol orders to patrol GR 83. That is just south of Capetown South Afrika. About 12780 KM.

I am driving a Type IXC with a range of 11,000 Nautical Miles. The date is 22 January 1942. The trip will take over 40 days.

How can I do this and have fuel to return to base?

11,000 Nautical Miles range is taken as if you sail at half speed all the time, so dropping to 1/4 or ahead slow will double or triple "near enough" your u-boats range.

Also sailing under water using electric engines for spaces of time will let you go even more miles.

You have two real choices here:

1. Follow the advice above from Fekin_Von_dEtRi (which is great advive and what I do with my long hauls in my IXC/40)

2. Download the "Milk Cow" mod from:

With "Milk Cows", you can rearm and refuel after your LONG trip and patrol to GR 83 is complete. If you install the "Milk Cow" mod, don't head to a "Milk Cow" area before you complete your patrol, or else you will forfit your patrol and loose about 100+ points of Renown.

thanks for the info. I have Milk Cow running, but see no sign that it is working during this time period. Earleier, thered was a few ports I could go to, but now they don't allow German ship even though they are netural, go figure.

I run at 7kts most of the time and spend time under water also.

Again thanks for the info.

Now at sea for 22 days and still have about 77% of my fuel. Been averaging about 7kts. I am located south of Freetown Afrika, about half way to patrol area.

As stated above I have Milk Cow running and so far I see no indication that it is working as stated it would. I see no Milk Cow Subs on the map. I feel it is working (sort of) because there are ports now on the map that were not there before installed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Any info will help and maybe a clarification from the Mod programer? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

If I remember right, when I read about it the mod maker put information on milk cows locations and dates in the F1 help screen.

BTW just a tip, spend as much time underwater running on batteries as you can. I usually only surface at night long enough to recharge my batteries and send my daily report to BDU.

Not that it will help in your current situation: I'm using the new Improved U-boat mod which incorporates the milkcow mod. I'm in February, 1940, sailing in my IXB to a patrol zone off the coast of Africa. On the way I received a radio message informing me of a German ship in a Spanish port. It is on the map, showing up as a blue icon in one of the Spanish ports. In fact, there are German ships in two Spanish ports. If I run low on supplies I am going to duck in there for a refill.

What improved U-boat Mod???

Check this post about it. Improved U-Boat v1.01 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/4841030173)
Just be aware that it is over 200M download so if you are dialup, your out of luck.
BTW: The milkcow mod in Inproved U-Boat is the same as what you have now.

The range of U-boats is in Nautical miles. Ranges on the map are in kilometers.

1100 miles = 20350 cliks.

An IXB has a range of 30 clicks or so at slower speeds.
