Anyone interested in this? I just saw the trailer today, download it here (http://www.armedassault.eu/downloads.php?cat_id=2&download_id=7)

Some of the bulding and tree graphics look week, but the character movement looks brilliant, and the size of the maps makes up for their low quality I think.

http://www.armedassault.com/shots/arma3.png

I think its touted as more of a simulator, than say arcade BF2.
Scheduled for release 1st half of 2006. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I can't wait to get my hands on this game. I hope they find a publisher soon. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

It should be based on a watered-down version of the VBS engine I think.

Check out the price of VBS:

The two things I'm going to buy a new computer for (apart from the fact that it is too old anyway) are Flashpoint2 and BoB.

This screenies from the VBS site. It's described as an OPFOR objective, ie; something that needs killing.

Is it just me or doth not this prospective bullet magnet look rather like Jean Claude Van Damme?

OPFOR=Opposing Force ?

I really look forward to the game. I hope they improved/enhanced the handling of vehicules in game.

"OPFOR=Opposing Force ?"

Ya' think?

"An opposing force (OPFOR) is a military unit tasked with representing an enemy, usually for training purposes in war game scenarios."

In this instance it appears J. C. Van Damme is therefore to be boitch slapped only for training purposes.

Nice textures.Close to photo realistic if you ask me.
It would be nice to play a role of a soldier in a unit participating in,say, taking a city.Online career, promotions, medals, lotsa shooting, trying to survive,no blood or pain.

Would like to see anyone live trough an entire campaign.Don`t think coming up with something like this is too hard at all.Community made IL2 so much more online than it was nominally so other military games should be good too.

Check out the price of VBS:
http://www.virtualbattlespace.com/store/ You have that completely backwards.

VBS is nothing more than OFP 1.91 with further engine and scripting refinements (and a hefty pricetag.)

AA goes far beyond what the VBS1 engine can do and will serve as a bridge to "OFP 2" and VBS2.

ive been wathcing the developement for a few years now... i finally saw a video released. i love this game i love this game i love this game.

but you woulda thought that they worked out the clunky movement, especially the sidestep..remember that ?? IT HAS NOT CHANGED! watch the video . its the SAME as OFP

6 years of new technology, and the movement is THE SAME... CLUNKY http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

operation flshpoint 2 is not the predecessor to AA!

OFP 2 is the OLD GAME with updated, revised graphics,missions/ story. if i am wrong, correct me.

but thats all i see hear about it, it is just a new "flash" to an old game

AA is the updated version of the original OFP, actually. OFP2 is currently in the works, but because of a falling out between Bohemia Interactive Studios and their former distributor Codemasters, is called "Game Number 2" as a working title.
Codemasters, who now own the copyright to the OFP title has announced that they will be publishing another game called Operation Flashpoint 2, but nothing has been heard of such project since.

Badsight.

This Armed Assault looks pretty good, how will anybody find large combat engagements in that kind of large map though? I guess objectives will be the linking factor and moving spawn points.

It does look very nice, ill keep an eye on it, but it just looks like a BF2 clone to me.

Seriously danjama, OFP was there WAY before the whole battlefield series even started. Unlike BF2 it has huge maps. normally entire islands 15 by 15 kilometers. You can drive vehicles ranging from jeeps to tanks to jets. All this 3 years before anyone else did this! BF2 etc. are more clones of OFP then the other way around. When it comes out, I can really recommend it to you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Great fun especially if you play with a clan or a group of (online) friends!

Has thou never played OfP danny boy? Thou hast not lived!

OfP cr@ps all over all the Bf range, it's the one true FPS simulator.

For a lot of OfP news, including Armed Assault, I got to http://ofp.gamepark.cz/

Included in the headlines at the mo is an Armed Assault trailer:

It looks like the Operation Flashpoint engine with a few upgrades.

Looks good, when you do something as ambitious as Opflash, you cant have graphics like Doom3, the view distances mean you have to tone the graphics down a lot, thats why flight sim gournd graphics are never great, becasue you can see for miles. Its too much for a computer to handle.

I am willing to have worse grpahics but a more ambitious game. Like the original Opflash.

I agree.. WW2OL makes the same choice.

Yeah I reckon that's really how the game should be played to get the most out of it.

Hidden and Dangerous was out in when, 1999? Why don't I remember OFP in 1996?
You could drive vehicles, fire the guns, change posture, etc, in that.
It was a WWII SAS sim.

rgr that on the correction between game 2 and AA!

i had it backwards. i was wondering why the demo movie i just saw for AA still had the clunky walking movement JUST LIKE the original. (i was thinking...DAM guys. 6 years trying new technology , and you couldnt improve on the human movement??)

great, now i understand why AA "looked" just like the original..and dont feel sooooo let down.

thanks for clearing that up.

shame on you. a yardstick across your hand! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif

go out and buy it. you will hate the graphics. YOU WILL HATE the keyboard layout. but after a week. youll forget ALL about BF2, BF, COD, CS.. enjoy complete freddom of movement ..miles and miles. not some dinky map. best money you everspend on a game. and its CHEAP to pickup.

Funnily enough, the helicopter flight models in OFP aren't even that bad if you use a HOTAS. I think it's safe to say that there should be no OFP bashing allowed.

HellToupee
05-14-2006, 06:35 AM
flight models are ok, generally its not the flight model people are dissapointed in its more the avonics side of things, because it covers air sea land etc no one area gets very detailed. Ild rather have improved avonics and stuff and all the gadgets tanks and all equipment have over fm improvments in a game like ofp.

The visible horizon thing was always a little annoying. In OFP you had weapons systems that out ranged the horizon, meaning you couldn't use that key advantage. The movie has a great shot of a soldier standing on a ridge overlooking a valley. Visibility is excellent. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Always struck me that Ofp was meant more as a tactical, logistical, and command, typem. Uber flight models and the like are the domain of dedicated simulators. I still would have liked to have seen a hidden and dangerous 3 though.

Thanks for the links, chaps!

This game could certainly be huge. Even if it's just an updated OFP, the "join-in-progress" alone could make it massive online.

Ahh... all those good memories from LAN games in OFP. So many stories. Can't wait for ArmA http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ive been playing OFP for years now, and still going. VBS1 is the original OFP engine, with higher quality models and texture resolutions, that is ALL.

OFP2 (Armed Assault) is a completely new thing that will kick every games' ***, ever. It's going to be that good. The bad part about OFP and probably Armed Assault is the dumbed down flight models, that's about it.

It's going to kill my PC http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

No,Game 2 (working title) is "OPF2" . http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif This will be completely new with RPG elements (eg. if you are nice to the civilians they will remember it and possibly give you info on enemy positions later[can't remeber where I got that info from]) ArmA is an updated OPF with many improvements. I agree with Capt_Haddock about the join in progress thing. This will be sweeet http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif.

Take a good look at the back of the box..... the General ( and vague) Warning is there, just like SHIII has. I do not have it yet but I believe StarForce is in this game too. Be warned and careful.

ploughman,

has it been a while since you played..and what version?

the visible horizon has been long gone. you can set the visible distance to several thousand meters away. units not set to only 500 meters anymore. you choose teh distance http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

same with the terrain. 5 different setting for it.

NonWonderDog
05-14-2006, 08:16 PM
Yep, since the GOTY patch (I think) you can set the view distance to anywhere between 500 meters and 5 kilometers. The max view distance is completely playable with the stock visuals, but I have to pull it back to 1200 meters if I use any of the graphics mods. Armed Assault will hopefully do a better job with LODs.

Still, though, what other FPS has a 1200 meter view distance?

Hi, good to hear the horizon thing's all sorted. It's been about three years since I last played it. I had the original and the resistance add-on thingy. I de-installed the game as my work/life/OFP balance was getting a little skewed in favour of OFP. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You know, of course, that FADE was cracked within a month or so of release, and that from then on the only people who encountered it were those who had legal copies of the game and unforseen hardware conflicts? Bohemia Interactive removed the fade protection in one of the early patches because so many people had to use cracks to play the game they owned!

FADE was a collossal failure.

OFP,,, Not to be confused with other fps, apart from H&D series of course, even they had standard fps size maps though.

After playing OFP COD MOH etc felt total arcade.

I remember one mission where you had to take out some Hinds after linking up with some special forces guys, I got totally lost!

I was meant to do it in the dark, I got there just as the sun was rising http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

One of them "PC" moments when I finally saw them Hinds appear out of the mist through my bins in the early morning sunlight.

I remember someone posting about some gfx "tweaks" (just setting gamma and colour levels) that for me totally transformed the lighting effects. I thought the gfx were very underestimated in that sim after that and wondered how many people who didn't think they were that good did the tweaks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Excellent game/sim
