Flight Model Audit

We are in the process of auditing the entire data set to ensure that the flight sim portion of WWIIOL is second to none. Our models already have an incredible fidelity in the modeling and they now have historical flight characteristics to match. For the release of 190 all fighter planes will be complete with fighter/bombers and bombers to be released in 19x. Once that is complete we will begin adding the visible component to the extensive damage system in our models.

Yes buy seeing as they have a full scale WW2 MMORPG, they are more than IL2/FB has ever been.

Did you play WWIIONLINE when it was released? Biggest muck-up in gaming history bar none....but after 2 years of patching, it's actually kinda decent. =/

WWII online was great fun for a while. I loved flying the blenheims. Unfortunately I did not like having that big enemy bullseye marker around my plane either. This made any sort of strategy very frustrating.

Also at the time I was playing I found out that all my strategic bombing effort was worthless due to the fact that attrition of factories and supply depots meant nothing. This seemed a major oversight by the game developers for me at the time and I promptly dropped out.

I believe that they have somewhat of an attrition model working now, but I don't know to what extent. Never the less I still refuse to fly on that sim until the enemy planes are no longer flagged with that big bullseye enemy marker.

Played WW2OL. Got to the rank of Col in the BEF. In short it was a joke.

MMPORG? Hah...unless you wanted more than 64 players in a zone...then it would arbitraily decide that you really didn't need to see the soldier 100 yards in front of you. Would make him invisible...of course he could still kill you.

Flight models were ludicrous and it took them over a year before they could animate a reload or show aircraft damage.

It was a glorified CTF game that took them well over a year to fix the flag bugs and they never could implement a decent supply system.

CRS flat out lied to people too about the kill scoring. They claimed it was whoever did the most damage...until I proved them to be lying when I sat outside a spawn area and simply plink passing tanks with one single pistol shot. Someone else would kill the tank and I would get credit. I posted the screenshot and was banned for a week...but others duplicated what I had done.

Of course they never did fix their bomb damage problem. Drop a 1000kg bomb into a group of infantry and watch them run away but some poor slob 200 yards away would be killed. Of course there vaunted flight physics took almost two years to account for aircraft performance differences when carrying bomb loads. They didn't model compression and the concept of induced drag seem to be a foreign one to them. Think energy bleed in some IL2 FMs were bad? You had to throw out an anchor to get any bleed in WW2OL.

Planetside, though futureistic, is a far better combined arms MMPORG if that's your kind of game.

If WW2OL wasn't pay to play, I'd check it out. As is I'm not willing to fork over the dough.

I am currently primarly a WW2online and IL-2 pilot. I have tried The new WW2online flight models in the 1.9 beta and they are MUCH MUCH better than the old ones. Induced drag has been added and planes turn rates, roll rates, ect have all be reduced / increased to historical levels.

Theres no more pathetic endless turn fighting like with the previous flight model since induced drag has been added. Turn fighting on the deck is almost as suicidal is it is in IL-2 now. energy tactics and wingmanship are now a must.

The planes all as a whole behave very realstically and its much more fun to fly in WW2online now. However Its still almost impossible to get into spins and they have yet to add a structural damage model (which is actually being developed now).

Btw sensei, I think you overexadgerate the problem with bombs. British bombs ARE underpowered (its next to impossible to kill heavy panzers) but trust me, bombs work much better now than whenever you last played.

The best feature for the air war this next patch is factory bombing. Its gonna be fun to escort / intercept long range bomber missions. They are also switching the game to OPEN GL so everyones FPS has gotten better.

Overall the game has improved DRAMATICALLY over the last 2 years. All CRS needs to do is get Structural damage in and I will have no more beef with their fighters http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Like any sim, the community makes the sim, and WWIIol has a great community willing to help out newbies. I beta's WW2OL, and said it wasn't ready when they released it. Some of the CRS guys were good friends, and they never lied to anybody. It is a work in progress, as with any mega player online game. It is well worth trying out. It has major problems, as does every sim, especially when you get a bunch of "know it alls" spouting off, trying to call the CRS guys names when they could be just good players and point out the problems.

RBJ, I know you have never played WW2OL, or you wouldn't have made the comparison of the two. They are apples and oranges, and DON'T compare. An "ACE" wouldn have known that.

The guys at CRS are good guys. <S> to Gryf and all.

I dont really care...I dont fly anyways in that game. Im in the best rifle squad in the game and I come off with around 50 kills each time I go on a sniper mission.

To fly, and fight, in a MMOG air combat sim, is something totally different from playing mission-script servers or those comfy FFA style belly scratching servers.

And, to fly, and fight, in a MMOG air combat sim with 100 ppl, is totally different from flying a 600 men MMOG.

Comparing AH, WW2OL, WB, AW to each other would be valid. Comparing a boxed sim with a MMOG, is not.

i agree...i mean BF1942 has so many addons and sequels (Desert Combat...BF Pirates etc)...also it seems kinda dumb to pay for something with the same concept as BF /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Planetside is pretty good, but my 7day trial froze after day 1, and I still can't get it to run.

Flight models in Planetside? Up down, left right, oh, and you can shoot. Lag is not bad, although ive been dropped a couple of times.

In short, IL2 is the best ww2 flight sim.
