View Full Version : Story about EB Games and Pacific Fighters

Just for giggles I went into a local EB Games store to inquire about the game. The funny part is the manager was there helping out a few of the GTA punk crowd as I now call them and I was stuck with this pimple from high school who looked like a blank sheet of paper. So I asked him if they had the game in on a shipment yet...Of course he totes the EB Games company line and says "well it looks like we should get it on the 30th which is next week but we never get games in on the weekends". I think to myself that the kid may be a little confused on the dates so I calmly reply that tomorrow is the 30th and the kid goes off..."Thats not tomorrow; today is the 27th and I am tired of you PC Gamer geeks asking for some lame game like this!"

Guess I struck a nerve with the pimple...Anyway immediately after that I break out laughing and the manager steps up to ask what the problem is so I relate my story and my question and he backs up his employee as any manager should. Till I get to the part about it being the 29th and tomorrow is the 30th...At which point he turns and asked the kid to see him in 5 minutes in the back. Then the guy offers me a free copy of the game to keep my business. The guy apologized and asked me to not hold one console geeks opinion of me against his store and the company that he worked for and that I was about the 15th or 16th person to either call or come by asking about the game. I just didn't have the heart to tell either one of them that I had gotten the game from Best Buy yesterday. I kept the card he wrote all that on and then as we were leaving my wifes job I see the pimple kid walking out talking on his cell phone about some PC game geek that just got him fired....

The moral of that story is to just answer the questions you are asked if you are having a bad day.

Well.. yeah.

"EB games", then I guess PC Gamer geeks will be your main customers.

Nice story, though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm about to head down to EB myself, keeping fingers crossed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've had my own problems with EB......

Lol. One console n00b pwned, 2,490,000 to go...

I went into my local Gamestation shop the other week to get PF, I asked the guy behind the counter if it was in? Hw went under the counter and pulled out a big stock ledger and after a while said no we don't have it in, should have it if you come back next week.

As I was walking out I stopped to have a look at the PC top 10 rank and the shelf to the right of it on the very bootom row packed in with all the old games, were a group of 3 games, yes PF...

I lifted one and took it back to the counter and said to the same guy, see that game you don't have in stock ! here it is! red faced he took the box and went and got the discs and manual..

I wish I had got it for free , but I had to pay the 32.99

EB Games sucks. I just left there an hour ago and they don't have a clue about anything that is not a console game. I asked about PF and he implied that I had the title wrong. He said he never heard of it. I went down the road five blocks to the Best Buy and was approached by a guy who said it was his first day working there and he got it for me without hesitation. EB Games has lost all my future business.

Absolutly, heck I may even pre-order from UBI!

That's a great story, Reschke. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

As many of you can probably tell from most of my recent posts, I've had my own problems with EB. To their credit, the folks at my EB have been cordial, though occasionally they appear annoyed by my inquistitions(sp.?) about PF.

However, I want the blasted game! If EB wasn't the only gaming store here, I would only go to them as a last resort.

I have my own experience that really closed any future business with EB. On the 'official' USA release, Oct 28, 2004, I went to my closest EB store that now looks to be a console only game store since all the PC games are in a small corner mixed together with used PC games and DVDs. So I ask around but the employees were busy playing a console game to show some of it's 9 yld customers so I look well for about 20 minutes but nothing IL2 was there! Lucky me on the same mall there is a Babbages store and there they had two copies available on the floor! To my surprise a teenager was also there looking for Pacific Fighters! Should have talked to him but let him make the purchase but he did have his copy of PF already pre-ordered in saved on the front! Went out from Babbages with a big grin. Here is a shot of my new purchase :

EB Games has been going steadily downhill, from a PC gamer's (especially a flightsimmer's) perspective for the last 3 or 4 years. IMHO, Gamestop, at least here in the SE USA, is a bit better. Anyway, when CompUSA or Best Duy do not have the game, Gamestop gets my business for know (better customer service too, I think).

Congrats Reschke, you did good. ~S!~ Glad to see someone fix an arrogant little clerk for once. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

BTW, EB here had only 1 copy of AEP and 1 copy of the Gold Pack, both new. No IL2 Forgotten Battles, not even a used copy.

I dunno..................the story sounds a little embellished to me.
Fired just like that? Must have a very "efficient" HR department. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

10-30-2004, 04:19 PM
must not have been the kid's first screw up to get fired like that. I agree that EB games sucks. I called them on the 27th to see if the game was in yet, and the girl there told me it would be in the next day. So I call back the next day, and talk to someone different, and he says it was never supposed to be in on the 28th, check back on the 30th. Seems they need to get together and figure out exactly what they want to tell the customers..heh...Anyways, I left there and called Best Buy. I had not called sooner because the closest one is about an hour away. They had 15 copies on the shelf! So, needless to say, a couple hours and a road trip later I was shooting off the deck and downing some Japs..no thanks to good old EB games.

What? The Americans have PF???

There is no justice in this world! I downloaded 250 of these to post here!

I don't think it would have been pimples first infraction against company policy. I'm not saying that I was the sole reason for his current unemployed status but it was nice to see the console freak whining about how it happened. Just as an update the EB Games stores locally still don't have their copies but if they did I was going to make one of my nephews very happy with a gift of an old Thrustmaster F-16 FLCS, TQS and RCS along with a copy of Pacific Fighters.

10-30-2004, 06:20 PM
Same here...

EB yestderday...."tomorrow"
EB today...."tomorrow"
GameStop...."next week"

Nowhere to be found in Denver, CO. My pre-order with EB "will be in next week sometime". If it doesn't arrive when I get off shift Monday I am getting my money back and will find it elsewhere. EB can blow me.

10-30-2004, 09:59 PM
someone needs to email EB mgmt a link to all these threads.

Well Im sorry you guys have had such problems with EBGames. I am actually a manager for them and I for one try to keep up with every and all release dates. Being a FB/PF fan I made sure I knew it by heart. We received our copies on Saturday the 29th and sold out the same day. Keep in mind that if the EBGames near you isnt a big PC store then that might account for everyone being clueless about PF's release date. Also honestly in terms of sales PF is not a big game for EBGames, so that might have something to do with it as well. Regardless everyone that walks in the doors should be treated correctly and not just blown off because they dont want to pick up GTA. Again Im sorry you guys had a bad experience with the company. Maybe you should all just drive to my store from now on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

In reality, it's obvious it isn't any individual resellers fault. I went to a few gamestops, all promising "tommorrow" - never happened. Went to a few EBs - same thing. Went to a few Best Buys - same thing.

I finally got a copy at Best Buy, but only because I found a note from someone here that found a copy at that particular location.

Actually, it is quite evident it is centrally located around UBI and it's distribution of the product. It's actually not supposed to be out until the 30th, well - that was Saturday but all of the resellers are backordered still...

That indicates one thing to me : poor distribution at the source, UBIsoft.

10-30-2004, 10:42 PM
Stuka. Is EB getting the games the same as Gamestop - limited pre-release status? I was warned that if I didn't pre-order, there was no guarantee that I would get a copy.

10-31-2004, 12:05 AM
I know since my store is not a big PC store that most of my extra copies only showed up because I and a few others pre-ordered it. A general rule of thumb is that the more pre-orders a given store has for a game the more extra copies it will get to sell to the general public. As it stands now Im sure we will get more early next week since I sold out.

We have EB Games in Australia as well. The staff at my local are all pretty good but like the US, the stock is focused for the consoles. My favorite store is a place called Harvey Norman where in the CPU section there is a wall for each type of game. (Flight sims, Driving sims, FPS, RTS and RPG.) I always seem to spend more time than I mean to just drifting through =).

Btw. Got my PF from them on the 27th.. My car broke down on the way home to play it.. =O

10-31-2004, 07:56 PM
StukaKing, Silencer said it too.... EB is more concerned with console games for the kiddies. There's more money in them. Look at the shelf space you have for PC games.... pathetic ain't it? Our EB store has one corner with 5 shelves 2 feet wide and a 6 foot section of backwall with 5 shelves for PC games. The rest of the store is console cr*p. This same store used to be 50/50 for each type.

Thrud, I don't think EB really cares what we think. Even if you went to the head office and showed them everything in writing from here. BTW, their head office is on Rt 202 in West Chester, Pa. You can't miss it with the big EB headquarters sign out front. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

10-31-2004, 09:37 PM
On a brighter note, EB games here at least let you have 7 days to play the game. If you don't like it, you return it and get another. A VERY nice thing in a world full of games that suck (IL-2 series excluded) =D

I never had any problems w/Gamestop, and I have one that's half a mile from my house. I always preorder and they have always had my game in order on the day of release. Now to the bonus part: There's a hottie that works there and she's got a sweet "Mae West"....... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
