its good if you want to enjoy scenery for about 15 mins lol also, its good for those who need good practice in learning to maneuver a sub, especially in the dark i find it to be quite challenging since you rely heavily on the lighthouses.. but i agree, it can be irritating after a while, in which case u can always transfer http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Can I still keep my Type IXB?

I also don't want to miss out on the some of the longer range IX subs.

yes, when you transfer, your sub will be there waiting at dock http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I guess I will abusing that port for the torps then http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I preferred the base to the south...no manouvering to get out of port...just the open sea in front of you :P

Brest is nice you have to manoeuvre but its okay.

Lorient sucks indeed but unfortunately every transfer request gets denied http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

i believe you have to have a few successful patrols in order to transfer

I've been using Lorient for the last year and a half of this campaign...

Changed the land-proximity time compression to 128x, and always plot a course right up against the lower shoreline, and it takes about thirty seconds to go from start to open water. I've never hit the docks or the shore.

I started my only career there (I am not one of the ultra realism types so I do make use of saved games when I **** it up) and I must admit getting to sea is a pain in the nadgers from Lorient.

Not sailed from anywhere else so I am sortof used to it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yes the land time compression annoys me asswell at Lorient.

I play at Lorient because of the type IX. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Ok I'm being fasiscious but you'll get the drift when you try it !

I would have like a 'get to open water' button (just outside the port concerned) somewhere just so you do not have to micro manage yourself out of the more awkward ports (I am dreading using the fjords if I ever decide to go after the Murmansk convoys). Did this ever occur to anyone when developing the game that it might be a totally unnecessary boring bit.

To me it is a detraction from the meat and bones of the game to foddle about leaving port. If I & others actually wanted to spend so long going back and forth in the same port again and again I am sure the game 'Port Tug commander' would be a best seller by now. As such I go for the 'easy' ports (Brest is okay) so that I can get on with sub hunting.

i was moved to lorient before i got the patches happening even though the map and mission despcription showed wilhelmshaven, imagine my supprise as i order ahead flank out to sea only to plough into an dock''. the first i knew what was going on was the sound of grinding hull, then my CE,telling me, we have hull damage''i'd tried to swing hard to starboard, manned the deck guns and got an starshell off just in time ,to see i was headed at an good 6 knots at the dock on the other side. i ordered back emergency, but it was to late and as the star shell dimmed i received an return to base screen due to the amount of hull damage.i now draw lines as i naviagte out of there so i can easily nav back in under darkness or i tend to sit in the main channel until it is light enough in the morning.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif You do know that you can put 16X while in conning tower right.

Thats how I navigate out ports. Takes about 2 mins. No map, just manual steering.

Be nice to have an option to check or uncheck.

Sorry, but how do you do this ? How to change land-proximity time compression?

what i'd actually like to see on this is the ability for your watch officer or navigator to do it for you if you don't feel up to it.. to have the ability to give out an order to take her out of base. i am sure in real life, captains didn't bother with this.. perhaps in the next patch? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Right now it's September 1940 and I just got the ability to transfer to the 2nd Flotilla.

They're based in Lorient right? I won't want to go there then...

but where is the 7th Flotilla based in September 1940? This is just after Germany's taken France and I heard some flotilla gets moved to Brest after August 1940 so I was wondering which one that was... I'd like to transfer there, I ****ing hate having to go through Denmark every time >_<

And how's Brest to get out of?

Brest isn't too bad.

The 7th Flotilla gets stations south of Lorient (name escapes me) and it's a simply drive out into the open sea.

It's the best.

Although I had to make a stop in Lorient and the 2nd Flotilla because I wanted to try out a type IX uboat.

Open (SH3 install directory)\data\cfg and open main.cfg with a text editor. Find the Time Compression section and change the line: "LandProximity=1" to "LandProximity=128"

Make the same change in My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\main.cfg

The files must match or nothing changes.

related question. if I transfer with my IXD2 from lorient to lets say brest or some other port. will I be able to get further upgrades for my boat or will upgrades no longer be available since I am no longer at the port where I originaly got my IXD2.
