[Edit: IMPORTANT - see about conf.ini changes below]

You just have to change from the default 'UbiSoft 1946' install path to your old FB/PF folder, everthing will be saved; skins, missions etc.

Did you have to back up your pilot profiles? Don't fancy having to reassign all those keys again!

Expectin to get my copy today; last night I made a copy of the whole 4.05 directory over to (a partioned) D: drive.

Will do a clean re-install of 4.07 onto C: then any .ini files like the joystick profiles etc. I can just copy back over into the right place in the 'new' version.

Worked last time OK.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

any idea how to switch between 4.05m and 4.07m in the same way as it was possible to quick-switch b/w 4.04m and 4.05m?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Major Setback...I've downloaded nearly everything available ...all the official stuff, but lots of other things as well:Mat Manager,QMP,DCG,etc & they all show up , one way or another in myC:/Program file/Ubisoft/ FB/PF folder.I'd like to do a completely fresh install, but keep all the skins, current missions & careers, also keep my custom screen saver & Music tracks for intros, takeoff, flying ,etc + the above stuff...& uninstall everything else for the reinstall.Soooooooooo I have two questions -do I have to manually uninstall the whole thing,or will a new install simply do that for me?Second if I uninstall the folder , what folders should I make copies of the reinstall after the fresh install...finally & maybe most importantly...if everything is playing along pretty good right now..should I even bother doing everything & simply install Machuria & 46 into the current game?
Ok that's 3 questions ...but you get the idea ...what's the best thing to do when I get all these dvds from England next week...fingers crossed! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have been busy with work etc. recently so haven't had a chance to check everything. Did notice though that the in-game sounds were turned on, whereas I always turn that cheesy Russian music http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif off.

Note: the auto install over the old version took a whole hour to do! (So many files).

All my pilot profiles were intact. I won't know about Mat Manager and the others as I don't use them. I noticed that my skins still worked in the missions they were selected for, and that even some of the default skins that I'd changed were as I'd changed them (the default skins are a bit crude on some planes).

Will post more tomorrow after ..... work http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif.

As far as i can tell my downloaded skins are all there.

I'm going to try that trick of saving the files.SFS from each version and just swapping those to change between versions ofthe game. Will post about this too.

Note: I installed over the 4.04m version.

If I were you; I'd make copies of the folders you really want saved. Then install '1946' into your present FB/PF folder, this will update it, and if any files are missing you have your backup.

Save for backup (files): Dgen, Quicks, Ngen, Records, conf.ini, Users; and any of the ones you mentioned ie Mat Manager etc from third parties.

Also keep the files.SFS (it's called just that) from the older version and save it somewhere else (also make a copy of the new files.SFS when you've installed '1946' !!!) so you can revert to your older version at will (apparently you only have to swap these files to do that). WARNING You need both files.SFS to do this though, and they both have the same name - so keep them in well marked folders!!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems like conf.ini (configuration) file is overwritten!!

My water setting was changed, also screen resolution (I'd set it specially to show 1280x1024).

....and I hadn't backed up my latest changes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

major_setback, if cheesy Russian music bothers you, you can download better stuff from www.sovmusic.ru (http://www.sovmusic.ru). Loads of Soviet-era songs/tunes there, most are dated so you won't run the risk of installing a post-war song for IL2. May I recommend "provodi2"?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Re. 1946 install over 4.04m. It seems that if you changed the default controls settings, these will be lost.
Actually I just solved it by (only) installing the old file named 'default' from my 4.04m users folder (not the whole folder).

Note: this only needs to be done if you changed your 'default' file in the Users folder like I did (altered the control settings that will be applied when you create a new pilot).<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
