View Full Version : Diseapearing airplanes????

Is it posible to turn it of somehow or to get posibility for it in add-on?

I hate to return to empty airfields. Why we have great demage model if we cant
se it after; what we did to enemy, did he suceed to land, and who survived
from my people. Why to help my team if that is last time I see them enyway..

(Exept that-FB 1.21 is perfect. Flying fyling is back.....

Great immersion observations.

They made them vanish because they were crashing into each other taxiing to park positions...mostly the big airplanes did that. I suggest they turn off collision detection for taxiing aircraft after landing.

Actually, I think a big reason for the disappearing aircraft is to allow players who have damaged aircraft to get credit for the damage. Before this was applied, you could heavily damage a plane and have it crash-land but so long as it didn't explode you did not get credit.

I would have liked to see only crash-landed planes disappear and then only after a judicious amount of time. If it makes it home, you shouldn't get credit anyway.

I've posted my disappointment about this before. After flying a mission where Hurricanes tried to protect 12 B17s to and from their target we were interested to see how many had made it back. We looked on the airfield ......and they'd all gone. It's nice to get back and see who's made it. It spoils the game somewhat.

I've posted my feelings about this too. I know it's only a small issue Oleg, but I would really appreciate having the landed planes back (at least as an option). I realise that you're often stuck between a rock and a hard place, and get whined at whatever you do, but immersion wise not having the landed aircraft there really takes something away for me.

Yesterday while flying on a campaign we moved airbase. I stayed in the air shepherding the bombers down, in case they got bounced on landing by any enemy aircraft that may have been in the area. They all got down safely, as did my squadron. I was the last 'plane down and the airfield was empty. It's not often at all that this game dissapoints me, but this was one of those rare occasions.

More supporters, yay!

Again, I think that a few crashes here and there weren't that bad. I just told myself that the pilot was bad, the plane was damaged, the control lines snapped, a wheel popped, or something like that, and the plane just slid into a parked one. It certainly wasn't as irritating as a plane randomly disappearing.

On the subject of getting the kills you deserve:
You got them before, when the planes didn't disappear. In fact, the planes actually DID disappear, but after an EXTREMELY long time (salvaged, burned away, says I). I liked to land my plane, turn up the time compression, and go eat or something when I got tired, and let some kills rack up before going on to the next mission.

I think I asked this before, but is there some publicly accessible variable that we can change to increase the time it takes for a plane to disappear? It seems like that's all you did for the patches, but I don't know if it's hard-coded or in a file. If we can change the time, I'd definitely like to.

you are right.
It was better in original il2?? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I support it!

Buff may be right. In an earlier Patch, or perhaps even original FB I don't remember, the planes would last about an hour of game time before vanishing into the FB myst.

And I think at one time the planes exploded when they vanished. Just barely trying to remember something about this though.

The crashing of taxiing planes will ruin the eventlog reports, again mainly for very large aircraft as I have seen airfields fill up with little I~16s with no collisions.

In IL-2 only big planes crashed while taxiing (i saw it with He 111). I I can remember correct, landed AI-planed vanished after ~15 minutes or so

Planes did explode after a long time in original FB if they crash-landed, and just disappeared if they ran out of gas, I believe - emphasis on the long time part.

And what are these mystical event logs you speak of? They don't seem like anything that would outweigh realism...

Fine if the big planes crash - now that I think about it, I've only seen the Me-323 and He-111 zwilling ever crash into another plane - and how often do you see those?

12-09-2003, 12:52 AM
TB~3s are another one that crash into eachother. Eventlogs are text files that allow a truly dynamic campaign, but you gotta write a computer program to read the eventlog and write the next mission file.

12-09-2003, 03:52 AM
Ah... well, in that case, you can just land early and quit a campaign mission before anyone has a chance to crash into you, or whatever. An option to change the time before planes disappear would be really nice.

Hi Guys

Has anyone transmitted this via e-mail...i don't think we need to because this is a very well known problem

Cheers...i'm crossing my fingers to get this fixed on the patch...am i too optimistic ?

Planes disappearing after landing is a VERY BAD IDEA. Please fix it.

This is just like 190's cockpit and the fantasy muzzle flashes: a dead cow.

Most of us hate the disappearing planes. It's known is a botchy workaround to avoid the AI crashing while taxiing. They'll continue disappearing just because the team doesn't want -or doesn't know how- tweak the AI to avoid this.

It's not a solution, it's the disguise of a problem, and they won't take that mask out.

Sorry, I posted a similar thread and didn't see this one http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Get rid of the vanishing planes is what I say.

Hi guys

A man wakes up in the middle of the night and goes to the kitchen for a piece of cake. On the way he passes by the livi8ng room and finds his 19 year old daughter playing games (not FB) with his boyfriend on the sofa.

Next morning on the front yard of the house is the sofa with a "for SALE" sign.

Does this behaviour sound familiar ?

Well who remembers the big whines going on about aircraft crashing into eachother on parking and not getting kills for crash landing planes, eh?
To me it was not a big deal, so you didn`t get a kill if a plane crash landed, so some bombers couldn`t see straight, but it didn`t destroy the immersion for me. Usually, I`d be too busy to worry about crashing bombers and in WWII crashlanded enemy planes were often not enough to get you a kill. That`s why pilots would return to a downed plane to destroy it completely to claim the kil.

But Oleg changed things cos the vocal minority are always heard while the content (ish) majority are quiet.

Now everyone`s whining that they want it all changed back? Guess what? Oleg changes it back. Yes? Then we`ll get new whiners going on about crashing airplanes and not getting kills for crashlandings!

He just can`t win, can he?

If Oleg does decide to change things again on the old Merry-go-round his best bet would be to make it an option. ON for aircraft staying, OFF so they vanish quickly. Some will still whine, of course....

It`s the only solution or this will go on forever.

The problem was not just that a few large aircraft were crashing. The problem was that a whole bunch of aircraft were crashing. Your squadron mates would crash into parked bombers. It was carnage - more aircraft were being lost to ground collisions than to enemy action and your squadron would look like the life expectancy for pilots was about a day and a half. It was ridiculous. Pilot life expectancy is way too low as it is now because of the AI refusing to disengage when damaged. Let's not make things even worse.

bump its a total immersion killer. Oleg changed it becuase the people complained that aircraft were colliding into each other,

so what at least its more realistic then planes disapearing.

Same with planes that disapear infront of you when you kill the pilot. The parachute stays but plane disapears. Wasting my time here

In my view, collisions (at the unrealistically high level they were at) was more of an immersion killer. I much prefer planes to disappear than to see five or six plumes of smoke rising over EVERY SINGLE airfield. As it is now there's always one or two, which is still too much. I mean they'd need factories churning out planes on a minute-by-minute basis to replace the collided aircraft.

In my view, Oleg's solution is a quick and dirty work-around, not optimal by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a far better solution than simply letting the problem continue.
