Hi all. I've been a little sick lately so this was delayed. We have just completed a revamp of things at our site since we found a compression codec that reduces files size by up to half while retaining a certain quality level.

With that being said, we have revamped the site to include compressed versions of all of our movies except Red Winter Skies(Which only reduced by 7 megs when compressed).

In addition, we are proud to annouce the release of our latest movie 'The Light and the Shadow'. Hope you have a little time and will d/l the movie for your enjoyment. S!

Excellent movie...I especially like the use of the Black and White guncam films/mode periodically.

I noticed that the opening and closing credits comprise a full two minutes of the 5:45 movie, though that probably accounts for only a relatively small amount of Mb's.

Again, it was very good...I liked the 'international' aspect, including your use of pseudo-Japanese acft/skins and the PE-8/B-17 acft/skin. It will be great to have the new acft(zero, B17, etc) in the upcoming Add-on(s).

Awsome use of music to set the mood for what came next. Beautifull.

That was totally AWESOME!!!! I have come to expect greatness from you UCLANUPE and this movie delivers! What an excellent theme music you chose for this masterpiece. I have never heard of Vangelis?

Hey, how did you get that cockpit shot with the bombs dropping all over the place? And what was with those German Mustangs near the end?

One other thing that was really totally cool was the number of different countries you had in this movie. Plus that last scene with the well I don't want to give it away, but that was heart wrenching in a way. Totally cool movie!

~S!~ Uclanupe!

Very nice and well done. Seeing Mustang's as German planes was a surprise! But look good as a Jerrie aircraft.

Yes..the clip where you can see the bombs coming down towards the P-40's on the airfield..then seeing this inside the cockpit was really sweet!!

Repeat from 'Hauptman" how did you captured that take??

The music was excellent!! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have never heard of Vangelis either.

Keep up the good work

Great work UCLANUPE! Really like the choice of music sound track, making me to work harder to find good stuff like that.

I had to look twice at the footage since you fooled me in believing that you had B-17, Bettys and Wildcats in IL2! Very well executed. Loved the shot when the Zero was shot down and tumbled out. Great work!

Hey guys. Glad you enjoyed it. The cockpit shot was just a scene setup for the player to fly the P-40. I run it and record everything that goes on. I then use an in pit shot blended with the external view from the planes and the bombs themselves to put the scene together. Of course the trick is not to get killed in the process LOL!

The green and yellow Mustangs are actually trailing the Red Tails that are escorting the B-17's(This happened in real life too). When the first view of them comes up, look quickly to the lower to mid left side of the screen in the distance and you will see them Mustangs and B-17's.

Vangelis is a great composer that I stumbled across in my search for theme music. I heard the Light and Shadow and a movie had to be made.

That last scene was just a reminder of what war can bring. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

UCLANUPE,

So I take it that the green/yellow mustangs are German captured?

Liked the A-bomb final of what should be Hiroshima I take it. Let's see if something like that could be ported for when the B-17 finally arrives.

I am currently working on a double project, keep an eye for it.

Captured Mustangs. I remember reading something about this somewhere. I watched the movie a few more times and saw the planes in the distance just like you said. Wow, that was sneaky. Just like the way you blended the japanese bombing run and the cockpit shots. And my dad thought that the beginning air battle was the BOB? You totally captured alot of different moments during the whole war, that is cool.

Anyway, I know I have got alot of work to do to come near the totally cool artistry that you show in your movies. ~S~

Yep, Erick those were the captured Mustangs that the Germans used for special secret operations like tailing the US Bomber formations to learn tactics. They were also very interested in the Red Tails since they were highly effective in their bomber escort duties.

Yes, your Dad is right the opening scene is from the BOB. Good looking out. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

NTESLA, Yeah the A-bomb kind of speaks for itself. I look forward to your double epic.

We are getting a completely new system and software at the end of the month. We are very excited about the next few projects on the story boards right now. Treats treats treats for this special community are coming. Wiley I can't wait until the new aircraft are here.

Hello UCLANUPE,

You, I and many other IL2 'film directors' are anxiously awaiting for the Add-on(s) to come out to make many intersting movies!

I for one, can't wait to have it to really start some masterpieces!

We should host ourselves an annual movie contest if Ubi is not up to it this upcomming Feb 2004.

ok i just watched the movie ....

i really really liked it ..... the guncam views were a great touch

almost all of the skins i seen in their i have myself !!!

just one thing , it was a moviw with no theme , just random scenes , with no fast action ....

there is not enuf slow scenes in other movies like in your movie tho & its greatly adds to the dramatic quality

was a great watch & is good work , thx to the maker !

Only problem i seen was you spent the first minute patting yourselves on the back.

Great Movie again. Couple of questions if i may:

1. What kind of rig are you running for this video. CPU,Processor, Hardrive, Memory, etc.

2. On using Fraps 2.0. What are your settings are you using to capture your takes....15 fps, or 30 fps? Any special techniques you are using...virtual Dub..anything like that? I'm working on my second video...any tips would be a big help. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thank you for your time and keep up the excellent work!

Hey Falcon.Really enjoyed your squad movie. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Now to your questions. Just so you know, the rig is only a part of the process, but does not determine the final quality of the product.
1.AMD Athon XP 1800+, 768MB of RAM. I run my HD in Ultra DMA mode 5. ATI Radeon 7500 Pro (Upgrading to a 3.2ghz CPU ATI 9800 Pro etc. at the month end)
2.FRAPS is tricky. So is track replay with FB. Some shots require 15fps treatment while other shots can be 25 or even 30. The trick is to make sure that it flows together properly and the various speed settings look right. You can use virtual dub or another program to even up the frame rates if needed, then combine it all in the video editor for construction and compression.
3.Special techniques. yes there are, but I can share with you guys. We are now keeping in the 'frame rate efficiency zone' or FREEZE as we like to call it. Basically it is a set of frames rate numbers that FRAPS works best under combined with the speed of the recording, the HD write speed and the amount of action displayed in FB. If a scene is not within the zone, we take steps to get it there or cut it.
4.As I mentioned FRAPS is tricky. FRAPS likes to be opened in a fresh boot up session. FRAPS likes to be one of the only utilities running when in use. FRAPS loves a defragged HD as it seems to appreciate the organization of files and write much smoother when capturing.

S!

Excellent job, as always /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Only one remark. I don't find a good idea that the leading and ending credits are like 33% of the entire clip, this means 33% of file size. I don't remember if it is a standard feature of all of the Red Diamond movies (and I have seen them all), I just downloaded and seen the Light and the Shadow, but somehow the proportion in regard to standard "120min movie / 8min credits" seems to me too big?

Hey guys. Glad that you took the time to d/l it and that you enjoyed it. Point taken in reference to the opening credits etc. We will make the proper changes so this is not an issue in our future presentations to the community.

Just so it is clear. There is no video in the opening that's just a still shot, so the overall file size is not increased beyond the still and the 30sec music intro. But as stated point taken./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

What the frick are you talking about UCLANUPE. I did not insult anyone, I just stated my opinion. Oh I see certain people can say that everyone that has uses this type of format movies are horribly choppy etc, eventhough that is not true and I can't say what I see myself. You guys are just very sensitive about this and maybe I should keep my opinions to myself. Sheesh whatever.

the difference is, im not talking out my *** http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

if you look at any normal movie(or go watch tv), and you look at any il2 movie encoded with wm9 you will see they are choppy. This is inherent to the codec and they way it drops frames. This really sucks because, even if the person makes an effort to input smooth video the codec porks it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

"that is not true"??

mabey you know something Microsoft dosnt.. enlighten us please...

Ok Ok. I really don't want to make myself a bad guy. But I saw alot of movies that were not choppy. Were they as smooth as yours, NO. There a definite difference in the way your movies play kind of like at 3/4 speed, but to say all of the others are choppy just does not appear to line up with what I see. On my rig I am not getting this choppiness thing you keep talking about with everyone elses movies. Some of them yes, but not all of them.

Plus if I may say so, your movies are excellent and so are others, that was all I was saying.

I may have used the wrong word 'recycled' but I meant no harm. I am sorry if you were insulted.

BTW, you appear to have something against Micro$$$$$ and I understand that, but I am not defending them in any way.

- There a definite

hmm, never heard his before. no one has mentioned my videos running at 3/4 speed. mabey you are confusing 3/4 speed with what an actual non choppy video looks like?

- On my rig I am not getting this choppiness
- thing you keep talking about with everyone elses
- movies.

i find it hard to believe your rig has the ability to go into the past and add frames durring the encoding process..

- I may have used the wrong word 'recycled' but I

i wasnt insulted, after reading your reviews of people movies, i allready dissmiss everything you say as unreasonably biased bs.

- BTW, you appear to have something against Micro$$$$$

i have nothing against Microsoft, i do have something against the wm9 codec porking perfectly good movies for no reason what so ever http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
if you understood the amount of work these people are putting into their videos you would too. I am trying to help people not slander them(like you).

WOW /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif very nice RD /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif outstanding work.

My brother was over when i downloaded this and watched it for the 1st time. lol. He actually asked what movie that was from. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

i opted to use my hot new cable hook up to go for the big download. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

was well worth it.

i really need to learn how to do this.

Did you consider useing some of the Ai actor voices in the sound track? in some parts you can hear them faintly in the background. would be a nice touch IMO for your next one. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Simply stunning. i am very impressed.

Black- I see you are having a problem picking the correct adjetives in your descriptions of what you see. Why not just take this opportunity to step back breath deeply.

You obviously have an opinion, so in the future why not just try to remain positive throughtout your review. If you see something you don't like leave that part of your review out. Once you have made a movie and released it for public comsumption, you 'might' get a little more respect regarding 'your' opinion about movie making. Until then, any negative comments from you will most likely get the same reaction from the community. Just a little advice.

Hey Copperhead! Glad you took the time to download it. I'm happy that you enjoyed it, because that is what its all about. Enjoyment for the community period.

I'll be glad to provide you with any info and help you need in making your first vision for the community. I just love when folks see a movie here and are inspired to make their own. This attitude has helped our little niche grow in numbers and technical excellence as well. S! See you on H/L.

Voices are going to be given additional consideration, but you have to be careful to get the proper balance. I'm pretty sure we will include them the new movie next month.

Hey Steaks! Yes, the volume and quality of movies in the community has increased. I have over a hundred of them on disk and seem to add more weekly. This is good. Glad that you enjoyed it and took the time to download it.

The past two weeks have been momentous in the our niche movie making here and it has been a blast! See you in the air soon. S! The 361st rocks!

sorry, i didnt realize the link i posted with my video didnt work...
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html
i recommend clicking "nic's binary" mirror 2.
the other links on that page give to many choices and can confuse people. "nic's binary mirror link 2" will get you the correct one http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This video UCLANUPE's requires the xvide codec as well. if you can see it, you should be able to see all xvid encoded movies. But if for some reason you cant, try downloading from the above instructions

Well, Leadspitter as you are aware we have all of our Movies on site for download as well over 80 others available for free on CD. We are trying to find additional web space/bandwidth to add at least two non-Sunstar movies per month. We were able to host Hauptman99's first effort and want to continue to host new film makers projects of note.

I'll keep you posted. We have big plans concerning the expansion of our site and will annouce them after the add-on has been released. S!
