I am wondering what effect, if any, patch 4.0 will have on dialup users with its increased demand on system resources? Will dialup users still be able to play online or will they have to play offline only?

I dont belive that it will have any affect on dialup users.

as you may know.

each computer only calculates its own plane.
so, it should be the same amount of data sent/recived

Hmm i am pretty sure that first line is at least partly correct Hunter82 .) Even target data that is shown is calculated localy and corrected when packet loss occured warps etc .) It is possible that you hit a plane that is lagging and after warp it is destroyed at a complete other position. That underlines that every computer calculates its own world data not only own plane but everything around it. And then sends in data to the host which processes it in some routines maybe adds random effects who knows .)

Further we had that different rollrate problem on different pcs that clearly indicated that there is a local world calculation that is synced with host .)

So except there was something changed in the protocol the size of data send should be the same except additional gimmicks were added.

can't get into detail right now, we'll have to see when patch is released on network usage.
