Sorry we have talked about this problem a lot of time, but for your opinion what is now the P-40 cockpit we could considere more similar to the Hawk-75 cockpit?

We could ask Oleg if it would be possible make it flyiable with that P-40 cockpit....

As yo said the H-75 model is an high quality model...it would be for sure a great addition in the sim.

Did you accept a not historical cockpit for this bird?

If you talk to Boosher, you'd be able to find out a lot more: he was on the dev team. If I can recall, one of the problems was colours: they didn't know what all the knobs and such's colours were. And some cockpit details. I think the H-75 pit would be a bit different to the P-40 early pit, but wouldn't take as much time as doing a brand new pit from scratch.

Either way, the model was dropped http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Shame really. I'd be happy to take the '75 with the P40B cockpit on the same "accept as it is" basis that we got the Ju88 pit.
Wouldn't mind at all.

I agree. I'd love to see the P-36/Hawk 75 flyable. While not identical, the P-36 and early P-40 pits were very similar from what I've read.

The 10th H-75 was pulled off the production line and was made into the H81 prototype. Should be a lot of similarities

Yea that would be great to have a Hawk-75 A3/A4 flyable in IL-2 even with that Hawk81 cockpit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I guess an dhope it will be in a BoB add-on Battle of France , along with Moranes , Dewoitines, Potez and Bloch series if they want to make something credible .

We've had almost the planes of most European airforces , except those of the Battle of France in IL-2 Forgotten Battles , i guess that one was a Completely forgotten battle then .. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That's a pity cause it would make a good front with many different aircrafts , with the appropriate maps it could be really nice , FAF did a Great job in the air against the Luftwaffe with inferior planes (except D-520) ,scoring (in the air) about 1000 victories for the loss of a bit more than 400 in the air , FAF lost most of their Airforce planes destroyed on the ground in that 1st massive Bliztkrieg deployment in History , it would be nice to have that theater for BoB , along with a Med add-on too , well i think so .

Be of good cheer---the cockpits were almost identical---see the P-40 DETAIL AND SCALE VOL. 1!

I hope that your wish will come true after Battle of Britain is released. I know there is a team that is quietly and slowly working on materials for a proposed Battle of Fance addon package (there is also a Battle of Poland) that could be added to the game at a later date. I know Oleg has supplied some with preliminary modeling details so that they can at least get started on these things.

I saw a very nice D.520 back some time ago. Hopefully a Hawk as well. Would be fun with the early Hurricanes (wooden two blade propeller!) the Bf109E and the D.520, Hawks, and others.

Vive la France! I will not be happy until I am hunting in a MS406 or a Bloch 152 or strafing trucks with Breguet!

Me being the person who built the P-40B cockpit, I can tell you that while similar, there are still a very significant number of differences between the 75 and 71, and most of them aren't small.

At one point I started trying to collect H-75 cockpit pics to use as references. I ditched that idea almost immediately when I saw the number of discrepencies between them and the H-81 pictures I had.

Now, I'd be more than happy to transmogrify my H-81 cockpit into a H-75 version, but I'd have to get Oleg's go-ahead that it would be included first--I don't have a lot of spare time to throw around these days. I'd also need some better references, and the H-75 external.

Ok , thanks for posting Veltro , and for answers/info and help guys , then let's hope that for a BoB add-on commercial or not in the future , we'll have the BoF theater and flyable planes of that theater as well as the Mediteranean front with Italian/US/British/ appropriate aircrafts as well then http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Cheers ,

What software will be used for BoB? I reckon if everyone got a hold of it, they could contribute to BoB by putting their aircraft in for integration for BoB 1.00, instead of waiting several patches later. Watta ya reckon? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Cheers ,

Don't worry mate, we are all waiting also for the BoF for the BoB. I really hope they could understand how it would be great have that addon. The same for the Polish addon.
We could really have a WW2 escalation, as it has been in the real WW2. Poland and France before the BoB, and soon after the first battle in North Africa waiting for Malta.

The next Maddox sim generation MUST be an interactive WW2 aviation history book. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif No more AEP addon please, but only theater addon.

BTW....Hawk-75 as AI is terrible......the model we have now is really well done. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Yeah, that was the answer I was expecting, Viikate. Oh well.

It is a disappointment, Veltro, but I have a feeling BoB will make up for it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

My hope is that in the future, Oleg and company will be a bit more methodical and foreward-looking when it comes to communicating with 3rd party modelers.

However they decide to do it, here's what has to happen:

--If they're going to accept 3rd party models, they need to be crystal clear in their documentation, and NEVER, EVER accept a model that's below par. The long stretch where they accepted bad models and spent their time essentially redoing them did nothing but cause problems. Either it's right, and it gets in, or it gets booted, and they point us to the examples to match if it's a format error.

--Somebody at the studio has to be given authority to rein in all the pet projects and have de facto say on which planes will be accepted. Sure, wunderplanes, what-ifs, one-of-a-kinds, and obscurities are fun (I love them), but for example, we needed a Do-17 or Do-217 a hell of a lot more than we needed some of the obscure stuff that ended up in the sim.

Maybe we can do things "American 3D Modeler" style--for each patch / expansion, Oleg can set aside a limited number of slots for 3rd party aircraft he'd be willing to pack in. Then the modeling crew at Maddox Games gets to look over the handful of approved models contending for those spots.

The ones that get picked get in, the ones that don't either wait until next time and improve in the meanwhile, or they go to Model Purgatory.

If we'd done things that way, I think we would have been better off. At least we can learn from experience with BoB.

I LOVE the idea of having an interactive book. My suggestion would be to have Maddox and his team code the book in XML or a form of XML with its own DTD so that the community could add additional comments.

There were so many Hawk 75 variants, it would be hard to do any one accurately; the comments about things like knob colors sound a bit shaky, because it varied according to customer. The French versions would have had to meet the Armee de l'Air's color requirements in the same way that Curtiss built Tomahawks and Kittyhawks to RAF requirements.

Simply put, a generic cockpit similar to the Hawk 81's is entirely appropriate; we don't use clickable cockpits here, so the exact location of the ammeter or engine temprature guage is not the issue. View out the cockpit, general cockpit layout with legible instruments and an accurate FM are what matter.

cheers
