View Full Version : Do-335?

I only come to this forum once in a while, so I miss a lot of posts.

Considering the amount of talk I see on the 1946 game, and the amount of online flying talked about, I'm surprised there is little talk about the Do-335. I've just started sticking it into a few missions myself to see how it goes. I kinda like it.

Is there anyone else that does? Or don't (beyond saying that there wasn't much done with them during the actual war)?

Yah, the Anteater seems to be largely forgotten lately... I wonder why that is?

Cause it doesn't turn like a spitfire maybe .)

It's offline of course, but Hotspace and Bird_Brain redid their excellent ME-262 campaign so that you fly a Do-335 instead. It's a boot... I highly recommend you try it:

I'd recommend the Seelowe Heights campaign. Taking off from autobahns and narrow village roads, against 10 to 1 odds. Highly immersive campaign.

Oh, I love the Pfeil! Cannons all around!

I know, I know, Mk 103/108 cannon's are for noobs. But it's still awesome shredding planes with them!

Scorpion.233,
Thanks for that! I've only flown the first mission and cracked up on landing...I missed the road by a few-20 meters. My undercarriage went to pieces...then the rest.

...landings have never been a strongpoint of mine.

Perhaps you really meant HISPANOS http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

No seriuosly the Do-335 it's awesome, I use it everytime it's available at least one sortie.

About those cannons, they aren't for n00bs, you need to know how to aim, now... turning on a dime is for n00bs, BE SURE! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hispanos? You mean those crappy things that stick out of the Spitfire? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Its used online on a frew maps on UKded2. But its very limited to about 10 planes on each of the maps its on, so you must take good care of them if you want to use them throughout the map. Once they are destroyed the blue team has lost a potent team weapon for winning the map.

Hyperion will agree, where it really excells is as a fast fighter/bomber.

It carries a massive 1000KG bomb in an internal bay, so its ideal for racing into he targets, bombing them and then performing as a fast heavy fighter. It doesnt suffer any drag from bomb racks, so as soon as you lose that bomb, it a pure heavy fighter.

It doesnt turn, but its sure as hell fast and seems to climb well each time I have tried it. Strict B&Z and Tag Team stuff.

I would be interested to know its climb rate BTW in terms of comparisons with other planes?

Is it near Bf109/Spitfire levels or is it more P51D/FW190 level?

Awesome and underused aircraft. Its too heavy to be a straight fighter so you have to be doing the energy fight without any turns. My favourite is going into a dogfight server with one of these, a 1000kg bomb in the bomb bay, take it up to 3000m and drop it on the enemy airfield http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I dunno Xiola, I'd like to see a test of that. But in my experience I think it climbs like a banshee.

It's a blast. Very very cool-looking too, in my opinion.

Set 5-10 second delay, wait for opponent to drop behind you, then lose altitude and release bomb? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

I caught a 109 just like that with an La5 vanilla the other day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

He followed me to the targets and I just foillowed my bombing run as I felt it was the safest thing to do, dive to escape and also bomb.

I was relieved when he exploded with my two 100kg bombs along with a couple of trucks and an AAA gun. You are a sitting duck on your pull up after a bomb run, such an easy target for anyone following.

Very satisfying, cant help but think he got what he deserved, preying on defenceless bombers http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I just downlaoded the campaign but stopped at the installation since it says FB 4.02

Does it work with IL2 1946?

How about using that bomb and dropping it behind you (on a delay) at treetop hight when you have someone chasing you! It sometimes gets 'em but when it doesn't it sure scares the daylights out of 'em!!

I've started this campaign, and so far I'm having a lot of fun! But I thought it might be an idea to update some of the missions with the Do-335V-13, with those 30mm in the wings for ground busting, or IL-2 hunting!! Would make some of the missions interesting using a different aircraft on some of the missions!

I might just edit some of the missions to do that myself - should be fun!

Thanks guys. It works fine with my 1946.

Screwed up my existing DCG campaign medal chest though. No biggie.

I edited the Seelow mission to a tad brighter conditions, LOL, creamed the wings first three take offs. At night when I could see the screen easier I'm online.

Anyone try this as a Co-op?
