The movie is very cool! It really gave me an ideia of what was the life on board of an WWII submarine...

And God ****! I was thinking of an happy ending by the time the cerimonial started as they arrived to the sub bay back on germany, but it was the opposite... The ending is really sad... realy realy sad...

I wish there could be a remake of it! With state of the art special effects, because there are many parts on the movie which the U-Bboats and enemy destroyers are noticeable small framed ships...

All in all I loved the movie... 4 hours and half of great audiovisual stuff... cool http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am really sorry for you guys who can not understand the German original. The German dialogues are much better (far more offensive) than the English translation. Hell, some dialogues are even really pervert. I hope you know what I mean ...

Of course I know. That one of the conversation about the bistro and the coffee for example... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Oh, before they started with that, they were talking about some other thing, then the starboard watch switched the lights on, and then they start with the bistro. What did they say that first time? (original-uncut)

I do not think that they talk about coffee and bistro in the german version at all. so i do not know which scene you are referring to.

No, remakes of good films are stupid. And CGI looks ****. CGI makes a movie look like Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

That's fine if you're trying to make a film like WFRR, but when it's serious it just looks stupid...

Anyway, 4 and a half hours?

You sure you don't mean 5 and a half? The mini-series I saw was 5 and a half.

In the edition I have the English subtitles are a translation of the German version, so it's quite funny to notice the difference between what you hear and what you read http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

With the "in-between-episodes" credits cut out, the Original, Un-Cut Version comes to 293 minutes, or 4 hours 53 minutes.

Sorry to disagree, but just because it's a "remake" does not mean it will s.u.c.k, do you think the last Titanic movie is a disgrace compared to older Titanics movies? I just think that remakes need to have the right and competent ppl to produze them...

Hey Negus!
Can you please translate this. It`s ringing in my head everytime I read it. Particulary: "wir machen pauke, pauke; nur die ruhe" bit.

well the translation is:

"Negus 1 [callsign of Maj. Dahl] to all small brothers [i.e. his wingmen]. Get closer for storm attack. Escort [fighters = Me 109] take care of the indians [i.e. the american fighters]. We make drum, drum [Pauke, pauke], Kameraden, keep cool and follow me."

This was the radio transmission of Maj. Dahl before he and his storm group started the attack on a wing of 36 B 17 bomber taking down 30 of them (if I remember correctly).

Thanks and sorry for my fubar post. I deleted to wrong part of your original.

I could work out a lot but I wasn`t sure about pauke (I know these are the big drums used in Symphonic orchestra).

30 out of 36 ? Was it a Schweinfurt raid?

It was over Oschersleben on 7 July 1944. (Could not be Schweinfurt because ther were no american escort fighters over Schweinfurt.)

That must have been even more devastating loss percentage than Schweinfurt raid. I thought that one was the worst of all.
Thanks anyway, it`s been a long ago when I was in "WW ll airplanes"!
