I was given a middle initial at birth. My dad, brother, uncles, and grandfather all have the same middle initial of 'C'. I get tired of having to explain my name so I've decided to legally add a middle name for myself. You may call me Captain if you wish.

Just so I understand, y'all have a middle initial C., which is just that, an initial only and does not stand for a middle name?

I shall call you Baldie Captain Tacticool™ Jr. aka Rose McGowan's secret lover.

Yeah. We all have a middle initial with no name. I have no idea who started it or why, but every male on my dads side of the family has it.

My first name is exceptionally rare. In fact, as far as we know, throughout history, there have been only two men with my first name: my father and myself. Everyone asks about my name and gets an earful. Naturally, everyone wants to know what my middle name is and since I don't have one the response nearly always looks something like this:

The only bad thing is, I've seen that look so many times I feel like I need to top it. So, I've changed my name to xxxxxx Captain XXXX, Jr and will tell people that I was given C as a middle initial so that I could one day chose my own middle name (as is habit with some native american tribes). Since I claim every racial background as my own, this addition to my name makes the story of my name even longer. I'm hoping future responses look something like this:

Oh Captain, my captain!

1) Baldie's first name is Ghjdjdjiuwmapf, as his father before him. The priest who baptised his dad was being laryngectomized at the time.

2) Before he adopted Captain as middle name, he adopted First Leutenant.

3) My first name means 'winner'. Really.

Don't feel so bad Baldie. So did Harry Truman. His family had a dilemma. They did not want to show any favoritism to either of his two grandfathers, Shippe and Solomon, so they just gave him the middle initial "S" so Harry's parents could say they named him after both. Later in life Harry Truman, long after his grandfathers were deceased, said that he preferred Shippe. Even during his presidential inauguration and swearing in ceremony his name was read "Harry Shippe Truman" and he corrected them saying "Harry S Truman." Many publications have his name written as Harry S. Truman like the "S" actually stands for something but his middle name really was just the letter S.

Oh, and mine is E. From what I can gather from my parents, they got the name from Elliot Ness.

I thought your name was Ubidu "Scoobidoobi" Bidoobi, the silliest name in the galaxy.

Harry Truman had only the letter 'S' for his middle name. So if you see his name with a period after the 'S', it's erroneous. Should be simply 'Harry S Truman'.

Yes you did, but you didn't unequivocably state with impudent fact that it should be "S, no period" and the "UBI Literal Police" caught ya. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Hmmm...I really don't think I could have said it more plainly. Maybe I should try and consider my words more carefully the next time I am trying to explain something. I am not known to be the most articulate kind of guy...at least when it comes to trying to get others to understand what I am trying to say http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
