Oleg,

Why don`t you disable skindownloading during
online gaming.

It causes pauzes,lag, stutters.

Or there must be made a way that it will
go smoother..

Why don't you just shut it off in your game? It does not lag out my machine or connection?

Pretty easy to do this - either if you are running a server, or just on your machine - it's in the network options for FB

Skin download does not effect my game in no way. I dont lag and I dont stutter. And you can disable it yourself as well as the host if you like.

Hi,

Has anyone actually carried out any research on this issue?

I have skin downloads turned off, a 56k connection (yeah, I'm a dinosaur(!) ) and I get stutters each time someone spawns, even if they appear to have a 'stock' skin.

Any sensible, proven methods (unlike suggesting running a T-1) for reducing this?

Cheers,
Norris

Spawn stutter issues are resolved in dedicated servers, with or without skin download /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I believe what the person is getting around to is those even though he/she has skin download toggled off, that those that are playing on the same server, who have a low connection but have skin download on, will make those planes lag. What he/she is looking for is when a server is setup if a toggle switch be flipable so any skin download from any players will not occur regardless if they have it on or off.

Skin downloading has not ever caused me any lagging or studdering. What you are more likely confusing is the lag caused by people respawning or too many objects in the game. Not from skin downloading.
If you do not want skins to download on your machne I suggest you just disable that option yourself for your game, that way you will not get the skin downloads and the rest of us will remain happy.

We do NOT want this option disabled for online gaming.

Hi,

That is the answer I was looking for - someone to disassociate skin downloading from more general spawn-related stutter.

I was wondering whether skin downloads exacerbated the stuttering but I would imagine that this only occurred on the first spawn of someone new to the server. Is that correct?

Norris

I have never had an issue with skin downloads. There are issues with the "spawn stutter" that seems to be gone with the dedicated server.

Hi,

I get spawn stutters on the 'UK-Dedicated' server which, presumably, is 'dedicated'. If whoever runs that server is about, can you please comment on that?

Maybe the stutter is a function of a number of variables including connection speed/machine speed/etc...

It's mostly liveable with..except when you are bang up someone's 6...!

Norris

It caused stutter in FB version 1.0. Not anymore, they've fixed it. BTW, only the new 1024X1024 skins caused stutter, not the old 512X512's.

It was really funny, the program stuttered, even if all had perfect pings. It was just that 1024 skins are 4 times as large as 512 skins.

Anyways, they fixed it. I now have the skin dowload turned on because, I wouldn't want to miss out all the wonderfull artistic skins that some ppl can make. Unfortunatly, you get the santa claus and Osama bin Laden pilot faces for free. (somtimes, they are pics of the actual person who made them, sometimes even more scary /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

Man, you're crazy!!! I can't believe you are asking to Oleg disable one of the most great features on this sim... If it is causing lag to you, why don't you just disable this function on the game setup?

Never had an issue with skin downloading when I had toggled it off. And dedicated servers don't seem to be affected (probably because the server isn't rendering the skin change).
