.. some way to make buildings/structures work as targets in IL2/AEP/PF. It shouldn't take that much coding because the game already logs when buildings are destroyed (& the bombardier yells "Target destroyed!"). Couldn't you make the target ring in the FMB work as a mark for buildings that are targets? Please - we need this now we have those nice level-bombers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Simple solution...put railcars inside the buildings.

This method has been used for quite some time. Online scripted servers sometimes run strategic objectives with cars inside factories. It works really well.

Yes - but it just feels so silly going level-bombing railcars, trucks & cars. It's such a small thing to code compared to new planes & part of it is already in the game. Please?

The real silly part comes then the buildings are totally ruined and the fighter pilots goes in to strafe the actual target that has happened to survive all the bombs.

When we asked Oleg about this years ago...he said no it is not a simple thing to code. Buildings, static aircraft, and all of that sort of thing make certain assumptions in the code to optimize the experience.

Adding buildings to have more variables than they currently do would require what he seemed to indicate a fairly substantial change to some of the baseline code. It may not appear to be a huge deal but when you go and code these things assumptions are made and I can no doubt guess that changing this would be like pulling apart the pumbling of your kitchen sink.

So I'm just trying to be helpful by suggesting some alternatives because its extremely doubtful this is simple or something they are willing to do.

What we SHOULD be doing is making sure that this request is heard for Battle of Britain and future titles. Because thats where it would be important and viable to argue for a core change to the code.

All he nees to hear is that he must bomb the factory and all he needs to see is the factory.
The railcar is only there for the scoring mechanism.

Don't get me wrong - I appreciate you're trying to help. I just think it's odd that the game actually records the player destroying a building but it's not possible to have buildings as targets. After all that's what level-bombing is about. Anyway if it's not possible to code a scoring system for the existing structures it would be nice if:

1) We could have some placable buildings set for each side that count points.

or

2) A specific target object - just a very small box named "target" to be placed inside buildings & having a toughness matching that of most buildings. This object wouldn't even need a 3d model (like the siren) because it doesn't need to be visible in the mission.

In both cases the object should bring up the message "Enemy target destroyed" when hit. I think this would add a lot of immersion to the game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

the devs and mods dont care about bombers far as i can see.

bomber threads are often transfered into GD, like the one where it was found the single guns on b25 dont hit where they should. dont use the sight cos ull miss... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

automatic bombsight doesnt work properly now either

Yup - it's really a shame this isn't getting more attention. When you think about how much time & energy they have invested in getting us flyable bombers. It's a lot more work than a fighter - Oleg said that himself. The target object would be a small thing to code - I've done some game-modding myself & adding/editing an object is no biggie - especially when it doesn't require a new 3d model. The only hurdle I can think of is if the engine supports more object categories. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Could we not have a few of the building objects, coded as stationary objects that could be inserted in the target area?

We would also need an icon for the end of mission kill sheet for offline. A bomb, or sillouette of a factory perhaps? Only one per sortie not every building destroyed like vehicles and armour.

Right Fox, instead of bus and bulldozer Stationary Objects, the Devs can have the Team make a few generic factory buildings as Stationary "Vehicles" if needed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Even if it happens, the factory buildings will vanish beyond 2km, unless the view distance is fixed. Fly above 2km and you can't see the buildings (or anything for that matter). This has got to be fixed.
