After being away from Il2 for over a year, while beta testing and working hard on Rise of Flight - I recently (2 months ago) started flying Ghost Skies with some old comrades of mine.

I cannot express just how much I'm enjoying this incredible "war". Why?

- Moving tanks, infantry, supply convoys and trains - in large enough scale to be a true simulation of the overall combat environment
- "Hardend" Bridges, AA, etc..
- Supply, command and control, moving front lines and contested towns
- Tactical AND Operational level C2 simulation. Group Commanders must think days ahead.
- Professional, dedicated, "color blind" (no red/blue predjudices) management
- "Full real" Il2 settings
- Historical plane sets
- Realistic mission environment, including planning - tasking - BDA (Battle Damage Assessment) and C2 (Comand and Control)
- Polite, respectful, savvy and skilled pilots on both sides

The staff of Ghost Skies just continues to amaze me. These guys pour over the automatic scores at the end of each mission to ensure that each and every pilot/team gets credit for what was actually accomplished in each mission.

While I love ROF and all the incredible FM fidelity and enhanced graphics - this particular "war", including very well selected mod configurations is the only thing I've ever particpated in (on a computer anyway) which has the "feel" and scope of real military operations - integrated in such an immersive and compelling manner.

I've particpated in other "online wars" and enjoyed them, to one degree or the other.

Ghost Skies, completely and totally blows anything else away.

Come and see what we're excited about - and having real fun with - you won't regret it.

Missions are 90 minutes in length and start at 2030 CST, every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. You must register and sign-up over at the Ghost Skies forum to participate.

You'll need TS3 - some skill in flying and fighting, manners and the ability to follow mission orders developed in each squad/group. Comm's brevity and wingman procedures are a must, as the flight groups are rather large (realistic).

The Ghost Skies forums contain all the instructions for JGSME and TS3 configuration, server IP's and simulation/scoring rules.

If I haven't got you interested thus far - let me say that I'm having more fun with this than any other thing I've done in the 8 years I've been flying Il2! For those that have known me over the years, here's the ultimate compliment I can pay: I'm not even flying 190's - I'm flying Mig-3/Yak-9/Yak-7b/Pe-2 AND LOVING IT!!!!!

Agreed to all the above posts. Like TX-Gunslinger, I've spent the better part of the last year beta testing Rise of Flight. Only on somewhat rare occasions would I still jump into IL2 for some quick fun on Spits-v-109's. Then, one day I was asked to participate in Ghost Skies online war.

It's dogfight in a dead is dead (per mission) scenario and it is incredibly fun...and addictive. The columns are moving, the campaign is dynamic and the front lines move after each mission based on each mission's results.

We use TeamSpeak 3 (which is running quite stable compared to even 1 month ago) and each squad is split on its own channel with whispers to other flight commanders from their own coalition.

We are in need of 6-12 Axis pilots, so if you are interested come by, register and observe or join and fly. As already stated, missions are 3 x a week but there's absolutely no obligation to fly every mission. It's loose enough that if you only want to fly 1 mission a week (they're 90 minutes) that's cool too.

Whether you've flown these things before or not in unimportant. it's only about teamwork and having fun.

Give it a look. You won't regret it if you do.

I always heard about these types of missions, but never knew where to find such an event.

I've already signed up at the GS forum, i just wondered what kind of turn out you guys are getting?

Hello Bill. Last night was 70 - 38 Red/29 Blue.

I forgot to mention theres a fairly sophisticated War Map - which contains information about events related to the last mission.

Here's a sample from last mission.

You can view current campaign mission results here: http://www.ghostskies.com/?mod=scores#tabs-1

Hope to see you there,

You may need to be registered to view some of the links Gunslinger posted, but to elaborate a bit, here is a plagiarized spreadhseet of participation by coalition and squad thus far (the Allied and Axis columns represent individual pilots not squad affiliated):

Obviously there's good interest and in the last campaign the Axis side was a bit heavier in pilot numbers, so some switched to Allied for this campaign. As you can see, we are in need of at least 5 more Axis pilots to bring parity to the numbers.

If you're interested, I strongly suggest reading through this thread: http://www.ghostskies.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7 to get your UP 2.01 install all set and test connection to the GS server. Also you can get the TS3 info at the bottom of the first post there..

Come on by. We don't bite and you'll find there are some really nice people just interested in flying a massive campaign in the best WWII sim ever made...so far http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Billswagger, you'll also need to register here: http://www.ghostskies.com/index.php and request assignment to the Axis bunker. Then you will be all set as far as access is concerned and won't get kicked from the server should you decide to come along. Look forward to seeing you there.

After the last main FM tweaking by Oleg I seldomly fly because the german plane capability decrease too much. I just found that lots blue pilot retired after this tweaking just like me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Then don't show...your loss.

Those that ARE interested though, tonight is staging to be the largest turnout yet and you really don't want to miss it.

The last 5 missions the Axis numbers have increased each time and there was only a difference of 3 pilots a couple times. Even just a couple more pilots would make a difference. Don't worry if you don't have a wing man, you will before you take off.

If you haven't registered, do so, If you HAVE registered, come by and request bunker admission and get set up to fly tonight...it'll be a hoot, promise.

p.s. Here are the respective numbers through 9 missions. We've flown 11 missions and the last two are NOT on these charts:
