I went from dialup to broadband about two years ago. I never looked back.

You say it takes an hour to an hour and a half to download game patches? Takes me a few minutes...15 at the most. I know both 4.01 patches took 10-15 minutes each.

Broadband may differ depending on where you are, but it all kicks *** over dialup! Even the slowest broadband in the world is better.

What is "dial-up"? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

"My name is Wayno, and I'm a,..a....um, dial-up user".

Ha ha ha, welcome to the 21rst. Wayno, I can remember having only "dial-up" but it isn't a pleasant memory. At this time, I hadn't heard of things like "Getright" or "Flashget". Too add, I would often lose my connection after about 12 hours of d-loading. I have the download programs and broadband and life is much better now. Although I am a survivor of "dial-up", I'll be scarred for life. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

good luck with bband.. but make sure your system protection is OK.. as the amount of attacks on your system will go up by a helluva lot. dont just rely on a virus checker.. there are alot of free protection tools you can use alongside it. 56k doesnt get attacked as much but don't let that put you off. the benefit outweighs it

Good advice exup25th. Protection is a must these days. It's heell to be forced to re-format when one just have managed to tune the system.

I am so envious. I only live a few miles from a fairly large city, but no broadband is available here. And the phone lines are in very poor condition, limiting me to a 28.8 connection speed. A few months ago the lines developed an intermittent static that will cause my ping to spike, causing me to get ping kicked from almost every server other than GreaterGreen (which I am close to geographically). Either the cost is too great, or the technicians that SBC employs now are too incompetent, but either way SBC is either unwilling or unable to fix the problem. I would move to where broadband is available, but the rental market has gone through the roof, so I really cannot afford to. I wish there were a competitive phone company I could turn to.

Mentioning your internet connection problems to them is a mistake, because they are only required by law to provide you with a 4K connection speed! So if you can connect faster than that, you don't have a problem! ARRGH!

In summary, be glad you aren't me.

I hope it works well for you, if you're still online in about 2010 i might get to fly against you. Either that or i hope the bandwidth available through carrier-pigeons increases significantly.
