My wife and I have a writing group at http://groups.msn.com/UniversalWritersGroup. We have just been named the #1 writing/critique group on the internet by Writer's Digest Magazine for the 2nd year in a row. This is in their May 2006 issue in an annual article on the top 101 Writer's Websites on the Internet. Some 3,000 sites were reviewed and our site was selected again. If any members here would like to see their stories posted and copyrighted, please feel free to check out our group and consider joining.

Yeah that is quite an honor.

I barely passed high school grammar thanks to a sympathetic teacher. To this day never formally learned the basics, just picked up most by ear so to speak.

Its a talent easily admired... a big congratulations http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Currently I have developed an entire Barbarian culture for an online RPG to such detail it even has both a unique, original, and logical alphabet and language.........That also includes some rather detailed stories of a couple of the characters lives. What is there easily filling a standard novel and online at another website.

Unfortunately it tends to be a bit to racy for under 18 online publication, yet I'd be interested in the process to gain copyright.

Hello Billfish,

You may remember me as BA_Isham from the blackadders RFC101. I read your reply and want to inform you of a few things about our group.

1. Any stories, poems or other postings posted on our website by members are automatically copyrighted to the author as part of the rules and regs of msn groups. said postings remain the wholly owned intellectual property of the author. What many of our members do is also insert a copyright mark on their pieces to doubly insure maintenance of ownership rights.

2. We are a mature group, not adult. No age ID check is required for access. However, our group requires an adult content disclaimer in the subject title of any post containing such material. Our philosophy is that sexual content is ok as long as it is done in a tasteful manner as an advancement to the plot and character development of the story. We do not allow smut or gratuitous sexual content in and of itself.

3. We have boards for science fiction and fantasy on our group and many writers who specialize in that genre. I, also, have read this genre for many years and you would find many who can give you helpful, constructive critique on your story ideas.

I will look at your profile and try to send you an invitation to join. I hope you will check out our site and read some of the other postings in the genre. So come join us and secure your intellectual rights.

So would anything offered immediately gain legal recognition chronologically vis a vis copyright?

In a word, yes. Anything posted is copyrighted automatically from the date posted. It counts as a published work. I hope this clarifies things for you. Just remember to include your real name, copyright as word or mark, the date and all rights reserved on the piece posted.
