Wild combat.

Is that real combat on film? I wish their was a higher quality clip somewhere...I think its interesting how the pilot of the "zero" is nailed to the I-15's 6 O'clock position (it looks like the kind of action you see in a video game). You can tell by the way he is flying that he has target fixation...I like seeing this "real world" example of a pilot chasing a (bi-plane, maneuverable) "hinking/jinking" target, because sometimes when I'm chasing a "bandit" I feel like I'm flying "sloppy"(I feel like I'm letting the target lead my flight path), I feel like I'm not choosing my pursuit path with intelligence...Its interesting to see him "pull up" as the target spins down trailing smoke at the end (dogfight tactics 101)...

Is that really an A6M? Seems like it might be an A5M...I can't quite tell if their are landing gear underneath those wings (low rez clip)...its probably a Reisen...

Agile because shes very light, and very small, with a very low wingloading, ja.

However in the clip, I am quite sure that they are ki43 or earlier models of Ki.
Even more agile than the Zero, but weaker and less firepower.

There has been some discussion on that film, it coming from Hayabusa Fighter Squadron so a Ki-43-I I believe.

Yep, it seems much more likely that those are Oscars.

That films insane. Talk about real seat of your pants dogfighting.

Odd how our Ki-43 nor A6M quite roll and jink like that...... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Looks like the narrower winged Ki-27, rather than the broader Ki-43 Hayabusa. Certainly not the Zero's wingshape at any rate.

I think its probably speeded up as its very old poor quality film.

Like the old 1900's movies where people all seem to be walking very quickly.

Looks very fishy to me.

At the start, the biplane is smoking. Then, around the 6-sec mark, there's a cut and the smoke disappears. Immediately after the cut, it starts smoking again.

Notice the camera work also: definitely not guncam footage, but made to look like it is. Presumably it was shot from a two seater.

Looks like the handiwork of the IJA propaganda machine, I think.

Thats precisely why I said maybe an earlier model of Ki than the Ki43, but wasnt sure what else it could be other than an Oscar?

Ki27 definitely had fixed gear, as Billfish says the planes in the clip have retractable gear.

He's using the rudder as well to improve rollrate. This works in game too, try it out.
