I wonder why UBI didn't wait another 3 months or so, when the price really hits rock bottom?

Now that's interesting...
Is it 'made in the USA'?

I heard there's no CD/DVD production plant in the US that has the necessary equipment to produce SecuROM protected material..
Not that SR did any good (only bad as usual with protection schemes).

It's true the U.S. version has no copy protection and its great. I picked up my copy from GameStop when apparently when all other stores failed having it in on time.

I picked up my copy for $19.99 in Madison Wisconsin today. (75 miles one way.)
2 Circuit City stores in that city and only one copy at each.

The U.S. copy includes the original IL-2 as well. I Pick up my back-up copy at Circuit City.

Passed the info along to a buddy that lives close to the nearest Circuit City, he picked up one for each of us. This just may rekindle my interest in this game after a five month hiatus.

I bought a copy yesterday at Circuit City, sticker price was $29.99, but at the register it rang up as $19.99.

And there is no Boonty or SecuROM. I installed the sim to a new folder, registered online, and can play without the disc in the drive. Does a simmers life get any better?

Well, it could be better if we had a Solomon Islands map.

Aside from the absence of framerate hits reportedly due to SecuRom, how would you know whether or not the U.S. release has it?

Would be curious to discover how it runs compared to the securom version....

I just did a search for Securom on my HD... and the only thing I found was the links in my favorites/posts folder to the threads on how to remove it. I got my DVD from GG when it was released.

I got mine from GoGamer too, but went to Circuit City during lunch today after reading this thread. Sure enough, they had 1 copy marked $29.99 and it rang up at $19.99.

Now I have 2, but there's always someone needing a copy and I'd rather give a buddy one than have them potentially copy one. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Interesting! IIRC, GG was getting their's from the UK, which I would have thought, had Securom as did those released on the continent. Also, IIRC, there was a performance hit that pointed to Securom which lead to some workarounds, including removal. BC, sounds like that procedure worked for you, but I guess nobody that's installed the U.S. release version has any feedback as yet. Thanks for info.

Btw, did the imported version say anywhere on the box that it had Securom?

It doesn't require the dvd in the drive to run, for one.

Exactly the kind of info I was looking for, thanks Luke5skywalker4. Install went flawlessly, patched to 4.08 without incident, IMHO runs smoother than my old 4.04m without the irritants (i.e., gun-induced yaw). Much to explore now.

So does the US version have Securom or not?

If it doesn't i am going to get the US released version and getting rid of the one i have now.

So can someone confirm that if it has Securom or not in it?

I believe at least two or three people already answered that question above your post FE_pilot. Each said it does not have any copy protection and you can even run it without a disc in the drive, which again would more than likely indicate no copy protection.

Picked up a copy for my dad at my local Circuit City yesterday. Can't beat that price!

None of the local Circuit City's in my area had any copies left. I found it at EB Games for 29.99. I scarfed up the last copy. Uninstalled my last version of 1946 and popped this puppy in. After a few failed installs (computer would freeze during some parts of installation) I got a clean and patched version in...

Will run tonight to see if I can finally get online again with the fellahs.. Will give my impressions tomorrow or Monday.

I own a copy of the US version (see above) but haven't even opened it yet. Can someone answer me if it's 4.07? or 4.08?

It only goes to 4.07 you have to patch up to 4.08.

God Bless Oleg and company!!!

I'm running smooth as baby snot in the U.S. 4.08 merged. It's beautiful. Pulled the following FRAPS score:

2007-03-30 16:17:22 - il2fb
Frames: 7921 - Time: 153000ms - Avg: 51.771 - Min: 19 - Max: 98

This with AA and AF Maxed and 1400X1050 Rez. No stutters, no overland bog downs and no CD required...

Who do I kiss for this? Who to I bribe???
