I wouldn't say it's worth it. Very buggy, and the devs gave up on it without fixing every bug.

Buggy? Devs Gave up?

An addon for it was only released a couple of months ago, and another one is in the works.

The only people who gave up on it were UBI, the publishers.

LOMAC is very good, but you need a decent PC to run it.

The new Advanced Flight Model is the best $30 can get you for the personal Computer.
Truly nothing compares... it is only for the Su-25T at the moment.
The FMs for the other planes are still excellent though.

Couldn't get it to run acceptably, and my few attempts at online play ended in lockups. Quite a surprise havnig had no problems with the IL-2 series.

And with the scripted FM and a host of weapon and radar oddities (the kicker was missing an IL-28 with 8 consecutive AMRAAMs from 5NM range), I didn't have the heart to try and fix it.

Which is a blessing in disguise, given how few people there are on HL. Even if I did like it, there'd be little chance of finding a game. And with the completely open design of the game, hacking is the rule rather than exception (you've got to hack it, with effects mods, cloud mods, etc, just to get good frames).

it's an excellent game you just have to go into it with the frame of mind that you will never get to run perfect. It's all about configuration with that game. I am truly convinced that even a top end machine 3 years from now will still hang up on that game. If your really patient waut for this http://www.fighterops.com/features.htm

i find it an excellent game.

the biggest problem on my part was having a video card that could play it at anything above LOW settings everything (this was aa Geforce 5500. since i just upgraded to the FX600 ULTRA.

WOW! all the "bugs" i noticed ..are gone http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (it IS GPU intensive...and RAM.)

this is not a jump in and "fly" game at first...get used to many hours assigning keys, controllers to your liking, and just getting used to how everything handles, an what it does.

you can buy LOMAC, with the flaming cliffs add-on boxed for 29 U.S.$ now. id recommend it. and im NOT a hardcore jet junkie.

there is a patch for it. even on low settings, i never had the game crash after i found out you MUST keep it in 32 bit color mode, and not 16 bit. (i never have tried it online yet.

Awesome game, especially if you're into jets. I do like jets, however I'm more of a prop guy, so I played it for a while, and thoroughly enjoyed it while I did. The learning curve is pretty steep so you need patience as well as a pretty good computer to play it.

If you've got those two things, I'd say get it!

Right on the button! I agree 100%. I don't know anyone who can play it with everything maxed, but my rig is good enough to play it at between 2/3rd - 3/4 settings and maintain acceptable frame rates. That'll do! One of the best jet sims ever made, in my book!!!

My Specs:
PSU - Antec 480w TruePower
Mobo - Intel D875PBZ
CPU - Intel 3.4 GHz w/HT 800FSB
RAM - 2 Gig DDR400/PC3200
GPU - GeForce 6800GT
H/D - 2 x WD Raptor 74GB in RAID 0
Sound - Creative SB Audigy 2ZS
Monitor - Mitsubishi DP2070SB CRT 21"

(I know, I know! Socket 478 is 'old hat' now, but I'll squeeze it to the max for another year or so and get away with it!)

Like JG_7Rall, I also tend favour props and I always come back to FB/AEP/PF, but every once in a while it's great to jump into a jet and......YEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAA!!!

Best regards to all,
panther3485

The graphics look fantastic

on my 6800Ultra the framrates will max out, then piling on the AntiAliasing (8xs), the drop is only slight.

Ingame shot, unedited. Looks better than FS2004 IMO.

Dont judge a game looking through an outdated computer.
I play Lock on 1.02 (I intend to buy 1.1 later this year) from time to time... only singleplayer and only wandering flights. It's jaw dropping... I don't care I have only 15-20 FPS on medium settings on some outside elements... I will not turn off my Antialiasing and my Anysotropic filtering and I'll never tell that this is a crapppy game. It is not.
When I return to IL-2 I see it as too cartoonish, it takes some time to readapt my eyes.
Go to http://www.lockon.ru, make an acount, go to downloads, look for the movies and download at least the "landing" movie.

The market for a "Jet Fighter Sim" is narrower that one for a "Prop Fighter Sim". And when you put that over a game that needs 3 good computers to run smoothly you have a potentialy fiasco from the selling point of view.
But the game was not abandoned, not at all. Maybe the comunity is smaller but they sick close to their game just as we do with IL-2. Take a look here: http://forum.lockon.ru/.

IL-28? ... The LOMACs?

That would be sweet. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I really hate to say this, but, other than IL-28, all the planes (Flyable fighters) look the same. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah sure they both have two engines and wings. I see the resemblance.

Low aspect ratio wings, two rudders, bubble canopy up front, same nose, etc...endless list. Same with MiG-29 and F-18.

If LOMAC Devs wanted their Flyable Fighters to look *different* they would make Flyable those F-4s, F-5s, MiG-23s, and include Flyable MiG-21, Saab J-35, Mystere-IV, Mirage-F.1, MiG-19, Su-7, Supermarine Swift, F-105, Yak-25, B-47 (bombers too), etc...endless list http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif
