Was up flying today, went to an Expo but on the way back i took this, well as I told you in the past week or so the 737 that crashed at Birmingham UK actually visited us here first, missed the runway in fog and tore the complete Starboard main undercarraige leg off... he then proceeded to drag the port engine nacelle and possibly the wing tip by all accounts along the ground before getting it airborne again and continuing on to Birmingham where the visibilty was clear before completing his crash landing... The complete undercarraige assembly has been recoverd last week, but i thought you might to see where he put it down first.......

wow nice pic..

Not to comment on his skils, but wouldn't the ILS line him up a bit closer than that to the runway? I realise its not infinitly accurate.

ILS was offline apparently and so was the DME after he left with it.

Here he is at birmingham and quote

The scene shortly after making an emergency landing at Birmingham. Whilst atempting an autoland at EMA in fog the aircraft hit the grass to the side of the runway on a late go around ripping off the starboard undercarriage leg

Something sprawled over the M1? That may predate 15 years ago, and very nasty it was too. Can't quite remember the details, the aircrew shut down the wrong engine because of their cockpit indicators showed the wrong engine had failed? A BMI flight anyway. I don't mean any dis-respect, the world is full of 737s and occaissionally they have problems. It's just I have a long memory for these things and that event is sort of what I have pinholed on East Midlands when I drive by on the M1 through that cutting.

***edit***

If you'd asked me yesterday I'd've said it was maybe 10 years ago that that happened, but it's actually nearer 20. I must be getting old, things are begining to telescope in my memory.

Pilot probably had accidently pressed Shift+F1 and wasn't aiming straight, I do it myself all the time, so I understand such things http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
