View Full Version : If you could add 5 planes and 2 maps into the game

What would you add to the game if you were allowed 5 new planes and 2 more maps?

- Would you add some western maps and planes to extend the game to the western front, more than it is currently?

- or would you instead make the eastern front campaign more complete leaving the west entirely for SoW?

- or would you add more rare nations, like Spanish Civil War, Greeks, Yugoslavs?

Please select only five planes, and only two maps.

I'd add

- a D4Y & TBF as flyable, so that the Pacific theatre gets more meaningful,
- a B-24 as flyable as a stand in for heavy US engined bombers, think one model would be enough and I prefer the B-24 over others. They were the most produced anyway.
- Ki-44 because it was something of an early fast fighter, which the Japanese currently don't have.
- P-38 F/G/H - an earlier P-38 model for earlier maps. Can be put to good use both in the Meds and the Pacific.

If I had to name two maps, I'd say two smaller generic online maps, one as a substitute for the Med and Asia, one for central Europe.

But then I'd be happy if all the current planes got fixed.

Typhoon - WOuld make an excellent addition to the Allied side for 1942/43 maps.

Gloster Meteor would be very interesting, just to see how it would stack up vs the best prop fighters of the day.

Ki-44

Spitfire XIV

To be honest its mostly British planes, becasue most of the other top nations have their best planes already. For example most German and RUssian fighters are already in the game. Even most of the significant US and Japanese fighters are too.

The Brits are lacking quite a few of their main birds.

2 maps would be Wewak to Lae (which would get part of S. New Britain) and one where New Britain is central.

The next being only 5 planes would make me say the Ki-45, Ki-48, Ki-51 (Bf110 type duty airframe, 2 engine dive bomber, multi role attack aircraft)....an earlier P38 like the F and a B25-D that had as loadout variations all those that were developed in NG.

I never bought Oleg's 1946, but I would have bought an Oleg 1941. Two maps: Western USSR, and another map closer to the Urals. Both maps with reduced "detail" to enable huge landmass in one map. I don't need "detail" as much as the ability to actually ADVANCE(**) forward on THE SAME MAP as a campaign progresses.

(**) Footnote added later: RETREAT is never found in campaign doctrine, until a retreat happens. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Why these planes? Well, normally I would say "flyable B-17 and B-24", but the bomber AI (for your wingmen and gunners) and high altitude performance in the game need serious work before they could be accurately represented. Similar reasons for "Flyable TMF/M, TBD or any other torpedo planes. No matter what planes have been added, IL2 remains a primarily a single-engine, low-medium altitude non-naval sim.

Id have
-Lancaster (because i want a tallboy and/ or grand slam)
-P-61 (but only if i got the turret version)
- TbF (cos i like torps)
-Waco/horsa glider (dodging rommel's asparagus!)
-Lysander (now this would be fun, covert night missions)

, id like a huge map streching from southern uk to spain, italy and germany. The second would be from moscow to berlin. I agree with lexx luthor, this would allow a contnuous and visible campaign.

I steer for the completist choices as well, keep IL-2 for the east and leave the west for SoW. For I don't believe we'll ever see the east again until very long time.

*Curtis Helldiver (Ship-killer)Why: I saw one at an airshow once and it was an awesome-ugly warbird, and later I heard it played a huge roll in the outcome of the Pacific War.
*Kingfisher launchable from battle ship, and recoverable by crane(Ha! yeah right)Why: I saw one upclose on the USS North Carolina in Wilmington N.C. and ever since I have wanted to see one fly but it is very rare. It would be fun to have that in the sim.
*A-26 Invader. Why: as a kid in the 70s I would ride my bike 5 miles to the Fresno Airport where there was an A-26 parked near the golf course-side and I would climb in, under and all over that plane on a regular basis. It had bullet holes and broken glass very thick.
*P-61 Blackwidow. Why: I built a model of one wehn I was a kid. Plane has a special place. Sides, it would be a cool looking beatiful black-skinned model in the sim.
*L-4 Grasshopper(Piper Cub) Why: I could sharpen my bush-pilot skills endlessly.

Heinkel-51 Very important and popular ground attack bi-plane used in russia

Big map covering the South coast of England south to the Spanish Border and east to Berlin! Ok kind of big, but allows for realistic length missions.

India/Burma border region

Very RAF/British Commonwealth based, but that's the part that is most under represented in this game unfortunately. I've got a huge list of aircraft (mostly early war - but 5 were specified) Oh rockets on the Mosquito would be very good!

Wow!!!!!

Like everyone else, pretty sure of that, my list is long, but..........

He-219 series

P-61

Do-17

He-177

Me262 HG III

Maps? Hmmmmm........

An area covering northern France, Belgium, Holland, luxemboug and western Germany. Good for the early bombing campaigns.

An map that covers the area 'ground' units involved in the Kursk battle occupied.

You sure did ask a good question! Seems like an easy one to answer, until you realize you have a couple of hundred that you would like to see!
