How much detail is too much detail in a sub sim?

Am I correct to believe that at some level, too much detail can kill a sim or is that just a myth?

I must be a power hungry freak, cuz i keep having the urge to control every little thing on the submarine, or at least have the option to. I am already thinking about SH4 or SH5 before SH3 is even released...

You can have too much detail,or at least too many buttons to remember,
I got enemy engaged commanche versus hokum about a year ago but have played it only once, despite printing out the keyguide i havent played it since my first go because i can never remember what does what.

A successful movie usually plays upon believeable facts. If you make a sim or game this way by using accurate facts and get it to as close to life as possible visual and sound detail wise it will be a hit with gamers.

Lets not go back to the days of "GATO"

As computer technology gets better and better the player will be more immersed into the simulation or game they are playing. This is what we all want. I suppose the ultimate sim of the future will be one where you can play these games or simulations in a 3d atmosphere that is like actually being there. Maybe your living room one day may be a hollogram of the inside of a sub. Anything is possible.

Well, too much detail is only when the average PC can't work with SH3 like its now!
What is a average PC,well in my eyes the PC with all options most people have(Gamers)!!
I believe that would be something between 1.5-2.4 GHz!!?

For controlling everything,I don't see how thats stand for realistic,in a plane you need too controll everything!
But on a sub its the point too controll your crew, not every valve or button there is too find!
If I also had too controll the toilet when some1 used it???? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Controlling everything is great but it doesn't add much too gameplay!!!

Three things can make a lot of detail too much detail.

First is the aforementioned requirements for the PC that must model it all.

Second is implementing not so relevant details at the cost of relevant things.

Third is giving the player too much controls or force him to constantly focus on boring details.
