Was just reading another thread and realized there are probably a lot of guyz who have never flown online. For those of us who have, let's post our first kill experiences and maybe we'll inspire.

Your first time is also a good test for your heart. I remember the first few times meeting enemy planes online and my heart almost pounding it's way through my rib cage.

I remember telling myself "Jesus, it's just a game, relax". It kinda makes you wonder how a real first timer felt when encountering the enemy.

My first kill, although 4+ years ago, is still very clear today. I've always choosen to fire at my targets from long distances. JG/54XTC(one of the two guyz that made "Requiem" video)was on the 6 of my teammate. There was no way I could catch him. I told my teammate to break right and when XTC followed I removed his right wing from 800m(icons on).

Even though the next few hours of online play involved constant punishment from XTC, I was very happy and proud.

It's important to note that first kill rarely means first time online.

My first time was in a squad v. squad friendly about 6 weeks after I started flying online. I was flying with the 78th_vFG against the fb's. About half way through the furball fb_stryker obliged me by becoming target fixated on one of my squad mates and my remaining squad mates obliged me by keeping my 6 clear, allowing me to concentrate fully on the task at hand.

In hindsight it was a longwinded and drawn out display of target fixation, poor gunnery and good luck, but at the time it was a heart pounding, palm sweating feeling of exhilaration and invincibility http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Well worth the 6 week wait for just that one kill!!!

Something else to add, it takes many months to a year to become good online.

Really? it was just the opposite with me (first time last weekend! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif). My heart stopped! FEAR. I don't think it's started again either... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Going online knocks your confidence more than a little. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

It takes bloody ages! Some days I do exceptionally well, others I fly 3 or 4 hour long sorties with no kills, just some hits on some planes that someone else finishes off or escorting bombers which I fail to protect completely.

My first online kill came on my first ever online session - on EasternHotShots (from your sig Pirschjaeger http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ). I had realised that online I was going to be totally outclassed in a dogfight, so started out in an IL2 and went for the ground targets. As I flew nap-of-earth skimming the terrain to the target area I saw a dot coming the other direction (no icons on at this point) which quickly emerged as a twin-engined aircraft coming almost straight at me at my altitude. My mind raced as I tried to think if there were any twin engined Russian aircraft flyable. Answer negative. He crossed my path in steady flight across my nose so I aimed for deflection and opened fire with cannons et al. His starboard engine lit up and he streaked past me leaving a trail of black smoke. Boom. He crashed.

I was amazed at my luck. It was quite clear however that he hadn't seen me coming - or thought I was friendly perhaps. My efforts later on against more aware opponents were more predictably dire. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

My first* online AC kill was roughly a week ago at UKDed1 IIRC. It was a lucky deflection shot with my Sturmo's 20mm. wing cannons, resulting in a single-winged Bf-109G-2 rapid field modification subtype, which regrettably showed no usable aerodynamical characterictics and thus soon hit the deck http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

But hey! What do I know of dogfighting, being a gentleman by heart and all that? Because gentlemen, as we all know, prefer Sturmoviks and leisurely ground-pounding over immature furballs any day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

PS. And yes, I _was_ admittedly shot to s**t immediately afterwards by said punter's vindictive teammates! Ye reap what ye sow &c. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

* And only so far.

My 1st online kill...is an emberasmnent.

New to Online, unsure of the maps, easily lost, I concentrated on Ground attacks.
I figured it would be the best way of learning the landscape.

Searching for the Ground targets at about 500m I see tracers pass my cockpit as I'm bounced from behind.
Startled I yank on the stick pulling up the nose at the sametime proud of the fact I had enough sense of mind to toggle off my bombs.

I pull into a turn and look out the window trying to spot who bounced me.....
I never saw him, not once....
but I did see my own bomb as it dropped passed my canopy, taking my wing with it.

Seems I had tossed the bomb up...and out.

I shot myself down.
was a real interesting track to watch tho.

My first online kill was in AirWarrior FR ETO.

I'd spent an hour chasing little black dots; and when I finaly got close enough to a dot to see it grow wings; I filled it full of hot lead from my Spit's Hispano's!

At that same moment I could see the text buffer scrolling by: "some clown's just killed our Goon!" (In AW; you captured bases by landing paratroopers from a C47)

Took me a while to get over that...

I forgot to say. My first online experience was not with FB at all...but with CFS2. It was such a bad experience that it put me off online gaming for a very long time (uber aircraft; and of course I died).

I also tried many times to get online with the original IL2, but could never get it to connect. I just gave up on it in the end (I tried many times)!

Hyperlobby is wonderful by contrast. I got connected and in-game first try!

I got my first 3 online kills in my first try (334th dedicated the server). They were all killsteals http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. I hadn't read the rules and thought that since everyone is doing it must be right, until someone kindly explained to me that black thick smoke is enough and you shouldn't follow these planes. I disagreed and still do, but decided to follow the "rules".

I started on WarClouds and spent about 5 hours decorating the landscape with my broken aircraft.

I finally managed to get a spit with a fair bit of deflection using the 30mm and he called me a noob.

How did he know?

His ego told him it could have only been "beginner's luck". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

My first online kill was in CFS1, then I was AH_RT_Bearcat. I dont remember the details... I think it was in a squad thing.... I know my first month or so I got my butt handed to me regularly until I got a decent stick.

In IL2 my first online kill was in a DF server hosted by Redwulf1.. Sincehe had been so nice to me my first time online in IL2 I tended to stick to his server in the beginning... I dont remember who it was agaianst.. I just know that someone else shot me down shortly thereafter.\

Actually... it wasnt that momentous for me to remember the details... I was actually surprised and pleased that it took me so long. My first night online I couldnt even take off untill after @ 7 attempts.

I remember my first few times online, but not my first kill sadly http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Anyway, when i first started i was on Ubi, and i met these really nice fellas, swordfish i think was one and the other i forget. They were in a dogfight room and i joined and started mingling, dropping the fact that i was a noob. So they told me to go out of the room with them, and they opened a private room just for the 3 of us, and they promptly taught me how to fly full real. I was pathetic. I couldnt even keep it strait on the taxiway, never mind dogfight. Eventually i got up, then they taught me that once above 3200m u need to switch the yaks mix to 80%. Then they taught me....

You get the idea, basically these people were teaching me, a noob, from the good of their personality, every night for about a week. I was touched. The worst part is once i discovered Hyperlobby i just forgot Ubi, and forgot the two guys, and i just flew. It makes me feel terrible now, but i hope that they too changed to hyperlobby and have in the time ive been there, been in my gunsights and experienced the full blow of what their own teaching skills created. I guess in the end that is what made the teaching worthwhile in the first place for them.

I wish i could find out who they were. I guess its just one of those things.

And that is how i was introduced to online flying. A grand entry id say. Now, let me try and remember my first kill and ill come back. I know it was on UKDed!? Just gotta remember the details.

My first online kill was also in CFS 1 after being shot down many times first. I flew with the Fighting 335th and we held matches on the MSFT game zone with squads "51st AVG," the "IJN",and "Knights of the ****ed" and some others. Graduated to CFS2 for a while and then CFS3 which didn't last too long. Then mofed on to il2 series now mostly play PF as we were a carrier based squad even back in CFS1.

Mine either
Mine was actually on the Sierra network( later known as IGN) playing Red Baron...an online dogfight version of the original.
At 1st very buggy and run with a 286 processor over a 14.4k modem, maybe even slower can't remember....it was almost 20yrs ago before the Internet was available without having to dial-up a national carrier at long distance rates.
IGN, offered 2 local #'s.
