My best machine is a dual core 3.2GHz Athlon64 X2 6400+, with 2GB RAM AND a Sapphire X1950Pro video card. And what do I use if for? Watching Blu-Ray on my HDTV! Meanwhile IL-2 1946 is set up on my clunky old Althon XP 3200 / Radeon 9800 Pro machine. How did it come to this? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Though I have to admit Blu-Ray movies are pretty sweet, and the 9800 still runs IL-2 extremely well. I'm having more fun with the darn thing than ever! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, lol. Now move on to step two and put il2 on the correct machine, lol.

I'm not sure why we need to know this information!?!?! bragging rights? and what exactly does watching blue ray movies have to do with this wonderful sim/game?

Well Mr_Zooly, we actually have no need for this information but we did click on the topic, right? Why did we do that?

Was it to find out why mean_mango thinks he is getting old or was it to **** him off if we did not find the information of interest to us?

I was sorta wondering why he thought he was getting old.

OK, mean_mango, get IL2 on that new machine or we might think you are getting old AND senile. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Lately I caught up myself cutting my IL2 playing time and PC time in general in favor of books.

I think I'm not making a mistake... and I like the way I want to "progress" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .

Yes. it can be that way, as for me i wasnt home the day the cable dweebs came by so big box in kids room for older computer, new 3hgz dual core 3 gig ram nv 8500 gt and factory power supply /and $600 paperweight has proper power supply and nv 8600gt on wireless adaptor. The logistics of this are quite crushing.

Geez is this post any different than the countless guys here who have their system specs in their signature? Let the guy have his moment of glory.

If we had a smiley for "whacking off". I'd use it right now. Just picture it in your head. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

W4nking for you guys across the pond. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hey, I'm just spewing my happiness at my hardware and this sim. If it bores you then move along. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

What surprises me is at this point I'm *completely* satisfied with how the sim runs on the 9800 Pro. A few year ago I was hammering for more eye candy! Better looking trees! Nicer water!

But this newly released Enterprise campaign is so cool, who cares about shinier pixels!

You like Blu-Ray movies better than 1946!?!? PM me your address and I will send over a nurse to take your temperature immediately. And no, it won't be a sexy, 20 YO nurse. You hardly deserve that at this point. I'll send the fat, 55 YO one!!

I would consider scrapping out the old machine, & building a new 1 w/ an AMD 780g mother board & 4850e CPU for my TV/Blue ray box.

I just put one together & u have to look at it to see if it is on.

Theses thing have built in decoding (h265?), HDMI ready ect....

This box has no fans other than the CPU cooler & I was running dvd-shrink while watchin HD divx files at the same time.

There was no noticeable heat build up.

This thing uses 60 watts for web browsing and 90-95 when both cores are wide flat out.

The 780g onboard video is so good you don't need anything else. (for blue ray ect...)

This would free up the 6400x2 & 1950pro for a real nice IL2-1946 machine.

I have the same vid card in an AND 4600x2 65 watt machine & it plays it real well.

My old socket 939-4400 toledo is o'c by 25% with an XT850 this noisy beast needs 4 case fans , 700 watts PS and serves real well as a space heater. (this is the box that has my saitek controllers attached so this is where i am stuck to play.) But I can't afford the electric for this thing to run bit-torrent & record TV, so it is turn off at every opportunity.

Good Luck.

BTW I am getting so old I sold my '83 GSX-1100E and am planning on a hybrid diesel scooter as soon as they make em.
