View Full Version : Freeserve/ Wanadoo UNLIMITED Broadband 512k users

Well this to me reads as they have now capped it at 30GB regardless of what they said about existing 512k users having no bandwidth limit.........so we are now getting an inferior connection speed for more cost than if we upgraded to the 1 Meg service with the 30GB capacity for the same price......... what do you think? am i right?

The modified terms they have slipped into the agreement

Wanadoo operates a fair usage policy if you send and/or receive data in any month which is more than your Usage Allowance or you exceed 30GB we believe that your use of the Service in this way is adversely affecting our network and the Service to other customers. We therefore reserve the right (at our sole discretion) to suspend your Service, make a charge for additional usage or on 30 days written notice terminate your Service.

Not sure TT, but you're reading of it sounds correct. I'm on the 1 meg service and it has been good, no problem with capping (and my other half is a keen downloader, music that is not images http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif) . To be honest I thought the cap was a lot lower but had heard it wasn't being enforced?

There are several caps the top one is the 30Gb for the 27.00 service

Hi, I use the Wanadoo 1mb deal with a limit of 2gb bandwith, and have already used over 5gbs this month with no word from Wanadoo. (shhhh...!) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If your looking to change ISP I recommend Bulldog (http://www.bulldogbroadband.com/index.asp)

I've just signed up to their unlimited 4mb service for 19.50 a month, and everything is good. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Bulldog no good for me, require 50 connection and then 30 or 40 a month subscription. I assume it's a geographical thang so for info I'm near Bristol.
I'll stay with Wanadoo's 1 meg / 2GB cap at 17.99 as it appears they aren't enforcing the cap anyway.

Tony you are right.
I have been with freeserve for quite a few years & after your post I gave them a bell & got upgraded as I was paying 27.99 a month for a 512k connection. I asked why I had not been upgraded Automatically & was told.
"it is up to the customer to sort out we need your permision to make any changes".
He then turned round & said
"As you are along time customer I will not charge you the 20 upgrade fee"
Thought to myself (trying hard to be a calm person this year) if you charged me I would have told you to shove it & cancelled.

A case of RIP OFF BRITAIN chaps! It would be interesting to know if this happens in other country's?
If it doesn't, then after the next sham election, I intend to press my M.P. about this, and also see if something can be done under Europe trade rules (I.E unfair bullying of us, the customer)

We pay through the nose for internet access but just be glad you're not with NTL, or at least if you do don't try to disconnect and go elsewhere. They owe me 67 back dated charges when I disconnected on December 10th taking my phone number to BT. NTL then charged me rental for December and January despite me not having a phone number with them to use! they sent me nasty grams threatening 'collection activities' and each time I ring they have a new excuse "systems down" "you need X Dept" "You need Y dept" "my manager is on break" (this one is a personal favourite as they all seem to be on break at the same time and eat all day so it seems) then they promise to call you back which they never do.

This all happens after waiting around on hold for long periods while they dream up more excuses. So since January they bill me for a month's line rental then credit it back to me the next month then bill me a month then credit that back the next.

i hav just phoned freeserve/wanadoo and they said that the 30 gig only applies to ppl who signed up after they changed to wanadoo, so the ppl who were sighned up for unlimited dload will still get it as the email only applies to ppl who joined after the merge/takeover from wanadoo. so hooah for unlimited, i r was redy to tell them where to stick there contract but hey got a supervisor who said all the old freeserve ppl will be unaffected http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif good news...

I am Pre Wanadone and they stated that the 512k connection folks would remain unlimited as long as it was fair usage and i left it on 512 to maintian the unlimited which i am on....... the blurb i posted at the top is the modified terms they emailed me.....which does add a limit....
I have thought about going over to 2mb BT but would be happy with the 1 gig if i maintain my unlimited bandwidth........

04-07-2005, 07:54 AM
YA, it does add a limit but when i asked they said that the limit was for ppl who had signed up with wanadoo with a capped package, they stated that the email was sent to everyone but it will not affect the ppl who had unlimited before they chaged to wanadoo, thats all i can say as when i phoned they spoke to supervisors and suchlike and was told that the 30gb capped email doesnt apply to ppl who sighned up b4 they started capping there services
