With all the other 2 engine aircraft the Japanese flew it is odd that this should the one to be used.
But I am glad!
The Ki-46 is my favorite twin, right up there with the bf-110. I just wish I could fly one in game.
Sigh.
The fighter versions are terribly fast and do not lack for manuverablility (at least when flown by AI).
I am very much TnB by nature (favorite planes being the Ki-43, A6m, and Yak-3) but flying the P-38 against the Ki-46, the Bf-110 against Pe-3Bis (or against bombers) is really enjoyable.
Also a very good way for me to learn BnZ.
I would stuff a LOT of ballot boxes to fly the Dinah!!!!
Edit- I just saw this ummm, 'hot' thread
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/506108595
Understand that I was just admiring the Dinah and saying it is nice to even meet them in battle http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes, I do like also to fly twins...A campaign in the 110 is a true challenge, though it lacks a bit of speed, well flown, it can be dangerous with its huge firepower...Same with the Beaufighter, an excellent plane for mud moving: fast, quite maneuvarable.

Read up on the Ki-45 "Dragon Slayer"....Was really the one made for combat. The Ki-46 was mostly recon at first.

I like the Beaufighter as well! I started in AEP using the 110g with the MK108 Kannons-of-Dooom.
Those are a 'blast' against bombers.
Against fighters I find it more fun and challenging with the mg/20mm's!

I would love to be able to fly the Toryu! But after reading that earlier thread about the Ki-46 I am scared to ask about it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

LEBillfish, liked you posts about the Ki61.
I Love the look of that fighter. Still learning Hiendo tho http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Flew several AI missions with the Ki-46 Otsu versus B-29's.
Even with the 3.7 cm Shrage Musik installation the poor Dinah's have a tough time of it.
3 or 4 were wiped out by defensive fire. The survivor got one hit with the big gun.
The big bomber droned on to base.
The Dinah ditched due to fuel loss from multiple hits.
I did a non-AI mision with the 110G with Mk108's and took out 2 29's in vertical slashing attacks.
Did I mention before how much I *love* the 110 in its intended Zerstorer role? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

i never understood the decission to model the Ki-46 in the game.

it was mainly a highspeed recon plane.
the two armed versions, one interceptor , one groundattack plane (yes, without bombs) , very not very often used, if at all - and far from beeing succesfull.

an AI controlled Ki-45 would have been much more usefull. but propably it went away in the PF development chaos http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Yes I would love to see a Toryu, either AI or Flyable.
Maybe in the future.
As things stand the Ki-46 Kai is a worthy twin-engine P-38 opponent http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

FYI,

The Ki-46 was built and put into the game because myself and more importantly my partner Simon took up the challenge of bulding it and we actually finished it and with some tweaking it made it into the game.

I'm glad some of you like it. It usually gets bashed.

BTW we were only contracted to build the recon version and we decided to do all three versions you see. So, your welcome. ;-)

Jason,
Thank you for providing such an elegant and fast Twin to fight!!!
Obviously many of us would love to fly it, but engaging it in combat is the next best thing!!!

Ya we would have liked to make it flyable too, but there aren't any good print references. You'd have to get inside the one on display in England to build the cockpit.

Better late than never.

Hope this is found helpful by someone one day.

Ohhhh, nice Waldo. The 3/4 profile pic would almost seem to show this to be a Ki46 Kai, one of the fighter versions.
I am drooling.
The AI in offline mode flys those VERY well, at least at Ace level.

Synchronicty!

I'm doing a merged reinstall as I read this; and one of the splash scenes shows a Dinah diving on a flaming P38...

Thanks for the photos and scans.

A flyable Japanese Army twin, of any type would go a long way towards addressig the inequity in the Japanese planeset.

Banzai!

Man that would be something to model a cockpit on, is it really really to late to implement more aircrafts and cockpits there have been
exceptions before

It is interesting to note that we can't fly the Dinah because of the known flight model and cockpit limitations yet the plane is in the game. What kind of flight model is the AI using? This discussion brings to one's mind the 109Z . . . again . . . http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Actually, a developer can do whatever a developer wants . . . http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif . . . and I'm enjoying it . See you all online.

These planes are no slouches nor is the AI!!!
I tried an F6f5 against 2 Ki-46 Kai's in the QMB.
In five missions I died 4 times.
Two BnZ against one slower BnZ/TnB plane is scary!!!
I took out at least one each time but the other would get me.
The last time I flew very defensively and killed one and damaged the other before I ran out of ammo.
Good training but in RL it would really be a Bad Thing, LOL

And I thank you for it. It's an incredible model of an incredible plane.

In real life, it lived up to performance expectations. It was very fast. It was extremely hard to intercept, except by fast-climbing, radar guided fighters. It was highly reliable and well regarded. It reportedly had light controls, was pleasant to fly, and its wing loading was VERY low in all its versions so manueverability is not in doubt. No wonder the Germans wanted so badly to build it themselves under license.

IMHO, it outclassed most of Germany's twins.
