A friend of mine has gmail and it seems to regard rar attachments as illegal.

A pain in the butt.

Dude. Don't link to that site. It is run by Daniel Brandt... Think "Galen Thurber".

Congrads on making me cringe though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah well... Daniel Brandt could very well be a crackpot with an axe to grind, sure, but I'm _still_ a bit suspicious of Google. Must be the backwoods hick in me - never trusted the big business, never will http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

But yeah, I still do my googling all the time, like all of us...

I average a couple hours a day in the buisness office. What is creepy is the thought that, if I used my work email address for all my personal email (as loads of people do), it's a trivial matter for my local IT administrator, and through him my employer, to read all my emails. Even if I delete them.

It does, of course, more or less. An operator can, however, decide how much and what information is collected of their search engine usage. And yes, stories of Big Bad Google _do_ exist outside Daniel Brandt's imagination too!

But never mind that, because I _don't_ have an agenda here myself, and it most definitely wasn't my intention to put down Baldie's offer in any way. I just presented that link for reference, as I said. Case closed, huh?

Nice Tip Baldie http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Didn't know about that one, and looking at http://labs.google.com/ shows some other interesting WIP.

I use gmail exclusively now, and yes it can be a pain when it rejects an archive (RAR or WinZip) because it contains an executable, just as it will not let you send an executable.

But that at least shows responsible behaviour on behalf of Google. Not like that other 'little' company that didn't get around to stopping a plethora of harmful file types from being executed in it's little used email program, until big businesses got burned and the press took up the torch http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Forgot:

Work-around to the executable bit is to rename it, or at least the .bat/.com/.exe extension by appending it with something else, yes a hassle but preferable to having to clean up after inadvertently letting a nasty loose http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Not sure here - my friend's gmail rejected a rar archive as illegal when all it contained were skins ( can you embed nasty stuff in bmps ? )

Have you tried renaming the ZIP/RAR file ext as, maybe, XIP or XAR? Works for me at work as these files are not aloud in our in our inbox, and sometimes you need to send a zip file of software updates. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif
