Battleground Gettysburg. I used to play this game quite a bit in the late '90s and enjoyed the format but I guess it's a bit dated now.

Is there a U.S. (un)Civil War title currently out that's more like Rome TW in its battlefield simulation? I'm not too interested in the resources strategy aspect of it but the manouver/battle thing's really very my thing.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Take Command: 2nd Manassas (http://www.madminutegames.com/)

Best battlefield simulator on the planet in the opinion of many who've played it.

If you are at all interested in Civil War tactical games, Take Command 2 is a must buy. It's graphics are not as good as Total War, but the tactical gameplay is infinately superior to anything in the Total War series, or just about any pre-WW2 tactical game period. It is in many ways closer to a Civil War command simulator than a game. In my opinion, Take Command 2 is the best Civil War game made to date.

P.S. Recently release map modding tools may mean that more battles (besides Cedar Mountain, Brawners Farm, 2nd Manassass, and Chantilly in the original game) will be available in the future.

I spend more time with Take Command than I do with IL2:1946. It is very immersive. Once a big battle gets going I find I have to stop for a breather about every 20 minutes.

The AI can be quite aggressive (depending on the commander) and has pulled off some jaw-dropping attacks, including holding attacks with accompanying wide flanking action. The outcome of most of my battles has been uncertain for at least 2/3 of the battle. I've also been brutally savaged at the hands of the AI. The game play, especially with recent community modes, really makes you feel like you are in a Civil War battle. Some scenarios restrict your field of vision to what you can see from your saddle, and there is no map available either. You really sweat bullets commanding these ones.

You can select whatever level you want to command in Open Play, from a regiment or even a battery all the way up to army commander. So far all of my superiors have been incompetent morons.

As mentioned in an earlier post, the community is working on new Orders of Battle and maps for battles like Antietam and I think Gettysburg.

I bought mine here:

I've bought three games from them now, including IL2:1946, and they have been very good to deal with.

Take Command has been great entertainment and I'm really looking forward to the new OOB's and maps.

Downside: no multiplay or extended campaigns, yet.

Great. Thanks for the replies. Take Command looks like the sort of thing I'm after.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I bought American Conquest Divided Nation only to find that it has Starforce.
It loaded fine and got me as far as a black screen every try. I have 2 burners and Nero so
therefore I must not be fit to run the game I PAID FOR. And Best Buys will not take it back
so my years of buying from that outfit have ended since this is the 2nd burn in two years
from BB's that used to be a good store back in the start.

I just hope that Securerom doesn't decide I am not worthy to run 1946. I guess I will save
a lot of money on games and new hardware if that happens. I don't care why, I do care what.

I used to play Sid Meiers Gettysburg, still believe it's one of the best Civil War games ever made.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
