Air Ministry Numbers

A Brief Introduction
Air Ministry (or AM) numbers were allocated to Luftwaffe aircraft at their place of surrender in Germany or Denmark. On an airfield containing literally hundreds of German aircraft, this designation ensured that set aside aircraft were not destroyed.

USA Numbers were allocated by RAF Intelligence teams to aircraft located in Northern Germany and Denmark. Details were then forwarded to Colonel Harold Watson and if required by the Americans the aircraft were handed over to the USAAF.

I wonder what the russians got, theres so many essential german aircraft that should become flyable. This list of allied ac is overwhelming compaired to the axis sets.
