View Full Version : LOL! Destroyers are like Moe, Larry and Curly!!

I was playing that Malta single mission and was very proud of myself after putting all four torps into the side of that Nelson battleship. Consequently those destroyers were a bit upset and they began firing at my periscope.

I was watching them through the scope as one passed very close and suddenly another DD (Curly) firing at my scope accedentally hit the DD (Moe) close to me. Well the captian must have shouted, "OHH, a wiseguy eh?" and hit the trigger since he fired back and hit the destroyer (Curly) that hit him first! Then the Curly DD yelled "Take that! NYUK NYUK NYUK!" and fired on the Moe DD!

Hilarity insued until both had their weapons shout up! The Larry DD couldn't find me so I got away.

I suppose the DEV Team should fix that first, but you know I will miss seeing it - its so **** funny and really comes in handy for a bored captain on a long cruise....

I still like watching ships randomly burst into flames and/or explode and sink without me doing anything, and I even get the kill count for it. lol.

yeah, the destroyer ai is not really good. Another problem I have seen is when there are too many of them they don't seem to have a special strategy, instead they are just hampering each other. They also seem to stop almost instantly to avoid collisions while the props are still running and the spray seem to indicate full speed ahead. Although without this immediate stop they would probably just ram and kill each other. Very poor AI.

that's strange cause i missed a destroyer with 2 torps & then it and another destroyer hounded me to no end. i'm diving, evasive maneuvers changing speeds & directions & they're still following, pinging & dropping **** on me. i nearly died.

I had one the other day run over me at scope level.. busted up my con tower and flack gun a bit but it ripped its belly open and sank... War Ships Sunk... "1". LOL

I am referring to alot of destroyers, not just 2 of them. I was playing the gibraltar mission and at several points I draw the attention of one of the destroyers which then called his buddies for support. So there were definetly 10-20 DDs, fregates and torpedo boats around but they were just hampering each other ... as described above.

YEAH. I can understand bad AI but I have never seen AI fire on eachother in a sim. Fratricide shouldn't be a problem with AI since the sim engine knows where everyone is AI wise.

It is just too funny though. I guess the AI is coded to attack anything that hits it, including a misplaced shot by a friendly in good visibility.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif But you know... acting alone, those DDs have a singleness of purpose that is hard to beat, especially when they have a handle on your location. My 2nd career was abruptly ended by one of those.

When you shoot a neutral or friendly I think they "get mad" back.

It's kinda silly that your enemies accidentally hitting each other make them turn into vengeful 5 year olds fighting.

It even happens in the last tutorial mission of the Naval Academy where you have to sink the convoy - the DD and the Armed Trawler will fire at each other. It's definitely not 'accidental fire' either, escorts will specifically target each other - I've seen it several times.

I can't decide if this is the coolest game I've ever played or if it's a piece of **** that I should put on the shelf for 6 months and hope they have it fixed by v1.9... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
