I have a NVidia 6800 grahics card (256mb) and I'm running on a 3.2ghz P4 system with 2mb of ram. I have my screen resolution set to 1600X1200 (the max). I have the game video set to the same resolution with "Excellent" graphics rendering.

When I play offline, everything seems fine and runs smoothly; however, when on-line things get really jumpy and sluggish. I think that is more of a communications speed problem, but I'm not really sure.

What I really find odd is that when I lower the graphics rendering to good or medium, things actually don't run as smothly at the same screen resolution. I find lower resolutions to be almost unusalble and not much faster.

What is the ideal video setup?

I have the same card on a Fx-53 processor with 2G of RAM. I find that for me the best resolutions are either 1024x768, or 1290x960. I have mine set for 1290x960 because it gives me a slightlky higher res than the 1024x768, and yet I can still see the dots and not take a huge frame hit.

Try lowering the resolution but increasing the Anti Aliasing settings in the Nvidia control panel. High resolutions are processor intensive (more pixel states to process) while Anti Aliasing is graphics card intensive (reprocessing the same pixels). You should try to find the best balance for your rig.

First, are you using a CRT or a LCD monitor? LCD's look best when you run them in their native resolution, CRT's are far more forgiving of resolution changes. I do think that anything beyond 1024x768 is really pushing a 6800 series card. I used to run mine at that resolution, but only at water=1 online, water=2 offline, water=3 was too jerky for anything but screen shots.

I run mine at 1280x960 and put my AA at 4x. With your system, you should be able to run the same res, but put your AA to 2x and you'll have better frames with good IQ than the 1600x1200.

My previous system was a P4 3.4 and a 6800 VC and I ran 1280x960, AA- 2x with really good performance under most all circumstances.

Howdy, it falls back to your monitor native resulution, If your using a CRT 19 inch by chance you will find 1024x768x32 will have the most efficient and eye candy combination for this game. The game according to Oleg was originally optimised for this resilution.

Sure you can run it at what ever you want, But the native resulution on your monitor, would be a great starting point. LCD or CRT respectivly

FYI, my monitor is a 20" LCD with a 60hz refresh rate.

I've turned off anti-aliasing which does not seem to hurt anything.

I've tried 1200x960 and 1024x768, but the game "seems" more jerky to me in those settings then at 1600x1200. I think that's where I'm going to stay for now.

Thanks for all the great input!
